I'll take Guest 1 for chapter 9. https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/montecristo_guest1_9.flac

Do you have any idea where the note is for chapter 4 about the missing line? I don't remember what we needed in order to fix it.

I'm okay to do it again if need be - I was really not sure about 'Tuileries'.

Thank you! It was a very good effert, but the u in Tuileries should sound more like a v almost. Take a listen here: https://forvo.com/search/Tuileries/
It's at 0:30 in your link:) The rest is good though, and thanks again for coming back:D

Great! It's PL OK:)

Yeah, it's where we're missing a 'Well' from John Burlinson, but I couldn't get a hold of him. We talked about finding it elsehwere, which would be a substantial job unless he has the word somewhere else in this project. Looking at the line, if we cut out a little narration, we can actually do without. This is how it looks:
The Catalan watched him until Caderousse, almost overcome by this fresh assault on his senses, rested, or rather dropped, his glass upon the table.
"Well!" resumed the Catalan, as he saw the final glimmer of Caderousse's reason vanishing before the last glass of wine.
"Well, then, I should say, for instance," resumed Danglars,
(It's the first, alone Well!, it's at 8:47)

Kristin,
Do you happen to have a spreadsheet to easily see how many chapters a character is in? It would be helpful to review to know if a voice credit is in full or falls under "additional roles read by". My cut off between main and support is usually between 3-5 chapters (depending on the project). What is your preference?

If you don't have a file would you mind if I sorted the edited files by character? For volume 1 it would currently be sections 183-239. I've done that in the past and it's a really easy way to see who read a frequently recurring character.

I have and I haven't. I have a spreadsheet where I have sorted in supporting and main characters, but that was for the purpose of keeping the same color for the main characters throughout the documents, not really to keep it sorted. I like your idea, and all of the supporting roles have 3 or less chapters.

Here's what I've done. I've fixed the old document a little, and all the ones in colors, are the ones I would suggest we keep as main, and the ones in black as supporting. Remember though, that this was made waay back when I started this project, so there might be some of the supportive parts missing from this list, but that should be easy to see when we look at the chapters. I'll PM you the link.

And I don't mind if you want to sort it different, if that helps.

Hi Mercedes,

That is so cool that you are named after a character in this book!

Kristin doesn't check in every day, but she'll be by soon to answer your questions. I might be able to answer some questions if you like. One thing I can tell you is that you first need to submit a 1-minute test to see if your recording settings meet Librivox standards. Check out this page here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording

I also know that Kristin usually requests that readers narrate a complete volume (e.g. Vol. 4 Chapters 74-95), but you can work that out with her.

Here is Kristin's welcome message:

Welcome to LibriVox! What Cataloge name would you like to have?

Please make sure you complete the "1 Minute Test" for review before you start actively recording any chapters for projects. This is NOT an audition, but a way to check to make sure all your technical settings are correct, your volume loud enough, etc. You will find the information for the 1-Minute Test Recording here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test. The instructions also tell you how to upload your test and then post in the Listeners and Editors Wanted forum so someone can give you feedback on it.

Also, as this is a Dramatic Reading, here's a few tips to make a great recording.
First, try and make sure you have as little background noise as possible. Follow the tips here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning.
Second, when recording a part, think of it as having a conversation. How would you naturally speak? read the text and see how the character reacts to the things around him, and if it doesn't say, then try to imagine it yourself. Let the reactions sound in your voice. A line can be read in extremely different ways, depending on if the character is sad or happy, so just remember to pay attention to the text and what is going on around him.
Third, when you edit after you have recorded (you will edit, we all do), leave at least 3-4 seconds between the lines, so that it will be clear when I edit where the break is.

At the Newbie Guide to Recording: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording,you can see how to set up your computer to record.

If you'd like to introduce yourself to the community, you can do se here: http://forum.librivox.org/viewforum.php?f=17

An overview of how Librivox works can be found here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_LibriVox_Works

There are numerous ways to volunteer here. An important one is proof-listening, which consists of checking someone's recording for errors. If you'd like to give that a try, you can find lots of information here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners
One of our volunteers has created a number of videos that you might find helpful to learn more about the workings of Librivox. You can find a listing of those here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/User:Philchenevert

Also to point out to professional (or aspiring) Voice Over artists, all our recordings are put back into the public domain which means sometimes they are sold on ebay, etc. Have a look at this page which describes our Public Domain policy: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain

I hope you have fun and please, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Thanks TJ!

Yeah, you can't just sign up for a couple of chapters. We are open to half volumes, but that's the smallest amount. Frankly, it's a massive job, and I would be a little careful about doing that as you first project, maybe start with something smaller until you've tried it out a little? You're welcome to sign up if you want to, though, just be aware that it's a very big job:)
