The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 11 August 1896 by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-11-aug1896-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
The eleventh issue offers the following 5 stories:
"The Mysterious Card Unveiled", by Cleveland Moffett:
''Mrs. Bilger's Victory", by Emma S. Jones and Geik Turner:
"A Defender of the Faith", by John D. Barry:
"Tim's Vacation", by L. E. Shattuck:
"Wet Horses", by Alice MacGowan:
( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The%20Black%20Cat%20v01no11%20%281896-08%29%20%28-ibc%2C%20bc%29/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here comes the 11th issue of the Black Cat. 8-) Five more stories waiting for interested readers.

As before, I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project so we can have the maximum of voices in each magazine.

I am so looking forward to finally hearing what was written on that mysterious card from the fifth issue. Kate volunteered to read the sequel as well, so both stories will have been narrated by the same reader. Thank you, Kate !

I'm equally curious about the other titles in the issue.

Claiming is now open. :)

Thanks, Sonia! Looking forward to part 2 since we were left so frustrated by the first story.

I love to read, AND my employer matches my volunteer hours with a donation to the Internet Archive, flagged to benefit Librivox.org. How cool is that?

Hello! This will be my first recording with Librivox if I'm able to record for you. If section 4 isn't claimed yet, I'd like to give it a shot. I read the story just now and just :( , but it's very good!

Hi Derek and welcome to the Black Cat :D and thank you for claiming.

I see you already did your one-minute-test and checked the bitrate, which is ok now  BTW it's best not to edit old posts, but rather make a new post, otherwise the volunteer who is giving you feedback will not receive a "new-post alert" and she will not know that you changed anything. I would suggest making another post and then you'll get feedback from her.

What I also noticed is that the background noise is quite pronounced. For the test it doesn't matter so much, but I would suggest using a round of noise-cleaning in Audacity for your "official" recordings, to give them a cleaner sound. If you need help on how to do that, let me know when you finished your story and I'll walk you through it :)

Meanwhile, I assigned you Section 4 and here is your brand new personal reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/15452. If you want anything else as Reader Name (for example your real name) let me know and I can still change it.

Please read carefully through the first post, beneath the Magic Window you can find all the details for correct filenaming and how to say the intro/outro and title of the story.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

And with that this project is now fully claimed and I'll move us over to Readers Found. :9:
