Hello!

Whew! I think I have got my first recording under my belt. I am pretty new to all of this, so I'm still getting the hang of using Audacity. I'm looking forward to becoming more familiar with it! Below is the required information:

https://librivox.org/uploads/m8b1/csw043_taleofmrstittlemouse_an_128kb.mp3
• The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse
• Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943)
• Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/17089
• Length in minutes = 10:30
• Alina Aurora Nuno (I don't have a webpage or anything like that.)

Please let me know if there is anything I need to do next.

Thank you! :D

Hello!

I was just reading part of the thread above, and I just wanted to confirm if my selections would be okay. They are stand-alone stories, but they are within a collection of stories. For example, I would like to read part 7- Mrs. Brownlow's Christmas Party from Around the Yule Log by Willis Boyd Allen. (https://www.gutenberg.org/files/43008/43008-h/43008-h.htm). I'm on the hunt for a back-up, but if this is okay, I'll continue.

Thank you again for your help!

Alina
Hi Alina,

That seems to be a separate story, so it would be fine. However, I am not sure if it is considered a children's story. The book is not cataloged under juvenile at Project Gutenberg. It would however be a good selection to submit to the Christmas Short Works project, which you can find here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=83226

And that way, it would be guaranteed to be cataloged before Christmas, where as this collection will most likely not be. :-)
Hi Maria,

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I'll go check out the Christmas Short Works for those stories. I've recorded The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse for this collection. It was my first stab at recording (other than the 1-minute test), so I'm looking forward to the feedback. I hope it works well for this collection!

Thank you for all of your help! :D

Hi,

I would very much like to do "Hans my Hedgehog" by The Brothers' Grimm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_My_Hedgehog), but I never realised how hard it was to find. It doesn't seem to be available with the Project Gutenberg collection of Grimm Fairy Tales. I have come across two versions online, but I'm hesitant about the issues of translation copyright.

Version 1: https://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm108.html

Version 2: https://fairytalez.com/hans-the-hedgehog/

If anyone knows if one of these could be used (or better yet know of a definitive version that could be used), I would appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Annie

If "Hans my Hedgehog" is in fact the story "Hans The Hedgehog", here is a translation of the work containing that story from Gutenberg:

https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5314

Hope this helps,

Yes, thank you! I've seen it translated both ways, but no matter what I did I couldn't find it! Thank you so much!

Hello, I would like to read "The Island of the Nine Whirlpools"

in THE BOOK OF DRAGONS BY EDITH NESBIT

It's a collection of short stories about dragons.

http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/23661

If acceptable I can only do it on weekends, so might take a couple of weeks.

Hi Alina,

Don't worry, the more you do it, the easier it gets! :-)

You did a lovely job! There is only one tiny thing that needs to be fixed. The beginning silence is over 2 seconds, and we need it to be 1 second or less. If you could snip a bit out and reupload, that would be great!

Hi Penny,

Yes, that would be fine. Just submit it here when it is finished. There is no preclaiming in Short Story Collections. When this one is full, I will immediately start a new one! :-)

How do I introduce a short story within an author's book of short stories when I begin a recording?

"THE ISLAND OF THE NINE WHIRLPOOLS" by EDITH NESBIT in THE BOOK OF DRAGONS

Or

From THE BOOK OF DRAGONS by EDITH NESBIT

And

When I save it to the mp3 is it just ninewhirlpools_nesbit_pw_128kb or bookdragons_nesbit_pw_128kb?

Just Say "The Island of the Nine Whirlpools by Edith Nesbit." No need to have the book title included - it will be linked on the catalog page. :-)

The file naming instructions are in the first post. We do not put the author in this collections file name.
So it should be csw043_ninewhirlpools_pw_128kb
