Gargantua and Pantagruel, Book III, by François Rabelais (1494 - 1553). Translated by Thomas Urquhart and Peter Motteux.

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/gargantua-pantagruel-iii-francois-rabelais/
The five-volume work chronicling the adventures of father Gargantua and son Pantagruel is a vehicle for Rabelais' satire of sixteenth-century European society. It is lively, outrageous, and, at times, bawdy. ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://gutenberg.org/ebooks/8168
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks. I changed volume to book, which is what it should be. And I mentioned the second translator only at the beginning. What do you think? Do I need to mention both throughout?

I would only mention both translator's in the first intro and at the end of the book.

edit: I added the second translator as described above. The filenames are a tad long but...

Thanks for setting me up and adding the second name at the appropriate spots. I have shortened the file name somewhat. I too thought it was a bit much as it was.

Here is Chapter 1. Many of the chapters are fairly short and there are 52 of them. Is that ok?

2 PL OK!

10m sections are okay. If you decided to do two or even three chapters/section that would also be ok. If you decide to stick with one chapter/section we might consider calling the first section 0 so that the chapter and section numbers would be the same. It would mean that you would have to re-upload the completed sections with 00 and 01 as the section numbers (rather than 01 and 02). Just less confusing.

Yes, let us do that: I am happy to reload. And I was thinking that I could sometimes do more than one chapter at a time, but still maintain the divisions as they are in the novel. Thanks.

OK. Section 1 is now Chapter 1. Again, the files will need to be re-uploaded with the corrected section numbers.

I have re-loaded. And added Section 2. Also, I was wondering if you wanted to continue books by African-Americans--the list is on my index so it is always on my mind. There are some novels and social statements and of course biographies. I did notice a biography of William Lloyd Garrison by Archibald Grimke, who is, of course, the African-American. And you know also if you are aware of some waning projects you need someone to finish for you, I am your man! Thanks
