The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 10 July 1896 by Various ( - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-10-jul1896-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
This is the tenth issue, offering 5 more stories:
"On the last trail", by H. W. Phillips and Rupert Hughes / ''A message from where ?", by L. Francis Bishop / "The man with the box", by George W. Tripp / "What the moon saw", by Isabelle Meredith / "In Miss Polly's pew", by Ellen Frizzell Wycoff (Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The Black Cat v01no10 (1896-07)/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

It's time to start a new issue of the Black Cat :9:

As always, I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project so we can have the maximum of voices in each magazine.

Looking forward to the new contributions. 8-)

Little question:

In the instructions above, it says to save, with the file number as "1", instead of 01 as we usually do. Can you clarify? Many thanks

yes this is correct, as it's less than 10 sections we don't need the leading 0. Similarly, when there are more than 100 sections, we need two 00, f.ex. _001_

It's been like this in all the Black Cats so far

 wow ! A strong first story ! I shudder at the thought that this box one day may be invented and what havoc invariably would be wreaked by it.

An awesome narration, Mike, thank you so much :9: Especially in the dialogue with the inventor I really felt like in a stage play. You play both characters wonderfully well and distinct, the gruff voice of the old man was especially awesome. LOVED IT !!!

And the first PL ok for this issue. 8-) (careful with the filename though, there's a typo "varioius". No worries, I can correct it in my folder, no need to reupload since there are no other errors.

See you in the next Black Cat maybe ;)
