Thanks, Betty, for this look at marriage from a different time and perspective. Nowadays, it seems, one reads of couples waiting 5 or 6 years to get married, so they can save up enough money for a splashy, over-the-top ceremony...

"When a couple becomes engaged ... the girl says at home, weaves and makes up her linen... The man fishes, builds his little house, and gathers his household goods about him. The engagement usually lasts four or five years, and during this time they seldom see each other, never alone."

"Food in Little Italy" by Julia Davis Chandler
Published in Boston Cooking School Magazine Volume X Jan. 1906

BettyB
Hi again, Betty! Did you know that Julia Davis Chandler (author of "Food in Little Italy") is credited with inventing the PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICH!

I found out this exciting bit of culinary history in the process of researching dates for Chandler, so she could be added to the LibriVox catalog. Maybe we should add her "historic document" to a future volume of SNF??

Hi Gabriel, Welcome to LibriVox, and welcome to the Short Nonfiction Collection! :) Your recording of Kierkegaard's Diapsalmata will-- in good time-- be welcome here, and will end up in the LibriVox catalog. However, as you say in your introductory post, you definitely need to learn your way around LibriVox before you do any more recording.

Speaking as book coordinator (BC) for the Short Nonfiction Collection, here are
1) some general comments on your first recording; and
2) instructions on what you should do next.

Your recording: LibriVox uses the Audacity program for our recordings. Recordings must in mono [yours is in stereo]. Recordings must be in the mp3 format [yours is in wav.] Therefore, as submitted, your recording cannot be considered for LibriVox.

For purposes of my own listening, I converted your recording to mono and mp3. Overall, I can see it will turn out ok in the end. There are a few, not many, errors, but the Short Nonfiction Collection has a dedicated proof listener (Soupy), who will point them out to you, so any textual errors can be corrected.

Your source: Here is direct source for the University of Texas Bulletin, which we would prefer to the one you cite: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=pst.000052897801&view=1up&seq=5

What you should do now:

The very first thing you'll want to do is to complete and get an OK on LibriVox's one-minute test to check the technical specifications of your recording files. This is not an audition. It's a requirement to simply confirm that your recording "specs" meet LibriVox requirements. Please post your one-minute test in the "Listeners Wanted" thread and an experienced LibriVoxer will have a listen and check the specs for you.

Here is the link to the one-minute test: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test.
Here is the link to the "Listener's Wanted" thread: viewforum.php?f=21

Once you have an ok on your one-minute test, please reconfigure your Kierkegaard recording to LibriVox standards and re-submit it here on this thread, and we [that is the book coordinator (BC) and dedicated proof listener (DPL)] will listen and advise you if any changes are needed in the recording.

Again, we welcome you to LibriVox and look forward to seeing your re-submission of the Kierkegaard recording in the near future. This is an on-going collection, so if your recording is not ready in time to be included in vol. 078, it can appear in a subsequent volume.

With best wishes,
Sue (Book Coordinator, Short Nonfiction)

N.B. I have just now noticed that I have misspelled Vaughan's name in the file name. Shall I correct it?
