Hi, here's my song. Funny, I didn't notice the example filename was the same as the song I sang. Please let me know if I made any mistakes.. It's my first time uploading apart from the 1-minute test. :D

* Link to your recording, as shown on the Uploader:
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/ccc20_harktheherald_rm_128kb.mp3

* Link to the text (and music) source:
https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=pst.000067569229&view=1up&seq=20 (page 16 - 20 in slider)

* Language in which the carol is written:
English

* Author's/translator's (and composer's) name, birth and death dates:
Composer - Felix Mendelssohn (3 February 1809 – 4 November 1847)
Lyrics - George Whitefield (27 December 1714 – 30 September 1770) would it be right to assume that he is the author? I based it on information from Wikipedia.

* Title of the carol
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

* Duration (runtime) of the file in mm:ss
02:51

* and if this is your first recording: how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal web site/blog.
Kobowo and I have no blog or site

Thank you, Kobowo! Your filename is perfect, your first time uploading went smoothly, and you did a great job of posting the file and information  You've got this!
Your song passes the checker, and there are no mistakes, so I feel fine marking it with your first PL OK!
I'll just mention one thing. The volume tends to fluctuate a bit between louder and softer, as though you might be turning your head first towards the mic and then away from it. It's nothing serious enough to worry about in this particular recording, as the fluctuations are mild. So you needn't feel that you have to correct it here. But I just mention it as something you might like to keep in mind on future recordings.

I looked to see how we credited this carol when it was used in an earlier collection, and I see it was there credited to Charles Wesley, as he seems to have written the original lyrics, which were later amended by George Whitefield. For the sake of consistency, I credited it the same way again here. (Mary Ann, I hope that was correct? If not, let me know and I'll change it.)

Mary Ann, I can't find Kobowo in the dropdown menu, to add him to the Magic Window. I assume this is because it's his first recording. Is adding him to the menu something you need to do?

Also, Kobowo, I notice that at the end of your recording, you say, "Sung by Robin Marcello". Did you wish that name as well as kobowo to appear in the LibriVox catalog? To explain -- Your forum name is the one you use to post here in the forum (you are kobowo, I am commonsparrow3). Your catalog name is the one that non-LibriVox listeners will hear you use on your recordings, and the name they will use to search for you in the catalog. Some of us use our real names in the catalog (I am Maria Kasper on recordings and in the catalog). But others use only their forum name for both. Since you used the name "Robin Marcello" on this recording, I just wanted to clarify whether you want to use that name, before we get you set up in the catalog.

Yes, I would like to keep it as my name. I find it harder to find a consistent way to pronounce my username because a lot of my friends have different ways of saying it and I'm unsure which way I'd like to pronounce myself  My last name is Marcelo btw :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I didn't notice the tilting, probably because I'm used to doing that when singing on higher notes but I'll make sure to keep that in mind when I read, thanks!

PS: Feel free to call me either by name or username. My internet friends normally just call me kobo

Okay, so we need to create a catalog page for a new reader, forum name kobowo, catalog name Robin Marcelo - (Thanks for giving me the correct spelling!)
I think this is something our MC Mary Ann has to do, so we'll wait to hear from her, and then I can enter your name in the MW (Magic Window).

Actually Maria, you can do it. At the top of the MW, click "add new reader".

It's once the reader is in the catalog that you need an MC to change their catalog name ...

Wow! Thanks, Mary Ann -- I had no idea that I could do this! I've just learned something new! (There is always something new to learn at LV!) :)

Kobowo/Robin, here's your new catalog page: https://librivox.org/reader/15236 (If you bookmark the link, you can always find it easily).
This page lists all of your projects. If you click on the "reader section details" link, you can keep track of the status of your assigned sections.

Here's a 19th century number a cappella. Let me know if something isn't right. (I mean other than my voice)
Merry Christmas,

Hello, Brize! Thank you for this contribution! I look forward to listening to it! I don't have access to a computer at the moment. I'm using a friend's device to check my messages, but I can't download files or check tech specs until I get a computer again. I promise that as soon as I'm set up with a working computer, LibriVox will be the first thing I go to work on catching up! Meanwhile, could you post a link to the source you used? I'll check back when I can.

MaryAnn, and all contributors to this collection, and anyone else who needs to know --
My elderly computer's hard drive fried, sighed, and died, and I've had no computer access for over a week. I have a hopeful lead on a working computer, scheduled to be discarded for recycling, which I might be able to claim for my own use, but it'll be several days yet until I get a definite 'yes' and permission to take it. So any lack of immediate response to LV messages and posts isn't because I'm ignoring you nice folks. I'm just dependent on when I might be able to sneak a peek at my messages on a borrowed device. As soon as I have a working computer to announce, you will be the first to know!

Meanwhile, I am living in a sort of time-travel adventure of life-as-it-was, in the days before home computers. Life is very awkward without it nowadays! Especially when one doesn't have a smart phone, which I don't! Can't check e-mails, can't watch on-line church services, can't attend zoom meetings, can't access work schedules, can't record for LV, can't do just about anything I'm used to doing! How did we ever get so entangled with this piece of technology?!

Oh my, and the timing is never good for something like that to happen. Hope you don't loose too much in the transfer.

MaryAnn
I haven't transferred yet, as I'm still waiting for a computer to transfer to. But fortunately I was assiduous about backing up files before I shut the old computer down each night, just in case, because it's been creaky for a couple of months. Glad now that I did all that backing up, as it should make it easy to retrieve my stuff!

Yes, Maria, here is the link to Begin A Joyful Song. Yes, it's old, REAL old, as I didn't want to mess around researching pub dates, etc. But music's music right? And Christmas was Christmas back then, so I thought olden thoughts would be interesting and perhaps inspirational (I mean the words, not necessarily my particular....rendition.)
Thanks, Brize

I'm back again in the on-line world - yay! My friend's donated computer arrived this morning, but it took all day to get it set up, and make sure it recognizes my microphone, printer, etc, and then to transfer my files and stuff. Now this evening I'm finally able to just settle down and DO STUFF! And of course, the first thing I decided to do is return to LibriVox!

Brize, I've finally listened to your contribution - Sorry it took so long -- thanks for your patience!

'Begin a Joyful Song' is PL OK! And a great choice, a rare old carol I haven't heard before. "Olden thoughts" are always interesting! And your "rendition" is absolutely fine! Thank you! (Also, thanks for the link to the source, which is A-OK.)

MaryAnn, I can't find the author in the catalogue. Could we please add him?

Hello!
May I join the project? I would like to try to record a Romanian traditional carol called "Sus la poarta raiului" (Up at the gates of heaven). The source text can be found here: https://ro.wikisource.org/wiki/Sus_la_poarta_raiului and a variant of the carol can be listened to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tjj_BY3lhD8.
Also if it is possible I would like to try several stanzas from Adeste Fideles (full text here: https://www.liveabout.com/adeste-fideles-english-and-latin-lyrics-2701295 and a divinely beautiful version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWdJKL978lE)
Of course my poor voice won't be able to render nowhere near the beauty of these carols, but it's about the Christmas spirit uniting us all in singing from all the corners of the world, making us share joy and traditions.

Hello, simonettix! I would be pleased to include a Romanian carol in this collection! The link you supplied at wikisource is acceptable for the words, but says nothing about the date of composition. Is this a traditional carol? Is there a particular author, or is it author unknown?

I would also be happy to hear your rendition of Adeste Fideles. However, the link you supplied is from an unfamiliar website. Would you mind using this link instead? - https://www.hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/Hymns_and_Carols/NonEnglish/adeste_fideles.htm (When this carol was included in previous collections, this link was found to be acceptable as a source, so I'd feel secure using it again.)

Please don't be concerned about your voice. The annual LV Carol Collection is indeed, as you say, "about the Christmas spirit uniting us all in singing from all the corners of the world, making us share joy and traditions." In fact, I'd say you have perfectly described what this collection is all about! :)

Hi!
Here are the recordings of the two carols mentioned above:
Sus la poarta raiului (author unknown - an old Romanian traditional Cristmas carol) - duration 02:30 min
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/ccc20_suslapoartaraiului_sr_128kb.mp3

Adeste Fideles - duration 03:20 min
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/ccc20_adestefideles_sr_128kb.mp3
For the second recording, I have used the link you suggested, Thank you!
