[group] THE CHILDREN'S BOOK OF CHRISTMAS STORIES - philc
It's def. well done and you have a lovely voice. I was searching for the volume parameters and found that.. Funny that the volume is so important and yet so hard to find info about it, and how to achieve it, if I could request a 'song' that'd be the one.. wink, wink...
LOL!
Thanks again..

Was it hard to find the volume slider? I can make a video about that, no problem. Volume has always been a problem with us; it is a slippery concept and hard to explain.zoesmama wrote: ↑October 28th, 2020, 4:55 pm It's def. well done and you have a lovely voice. Yes.. identifying the 'gain' as it has to do with the volume, etc... the ideal input and or output numbers.. ah, etc. etc.. yes, to be succinct, 'the volume' ..(also having the 'ideal numbers' that Librivox would like to have in more places would be useful, too!IMHO)
Thank you!
Thank you!

I hope the noise floor is okay now. I measured it at 89 but I've never paid much attention to noise levels before, only used the ACX check so let me know if it still needs tweaking.

I'll sort it tomorrow. Sorry, I was going by the numerals at the top. Easy fixes. Glad you didn't mention my terrible granny voice

I've completed section 34, Little Gretchen. It's 18 mins 32seconds long.

1) In the intro and outro you read 'chapter 33' rather than 'chapter 34' (twice in the beginning and one more time at the end.)
2) Your closing silence is about 2 3/4 seconds long - since you'll probably find it easiest to re-record the introduction and outro and edit those onto the story, just make sure to leave more silence on the ending - you're aiming for 5 seconds of silence.
3) Your overall volume is louder than the LibriVox standard range. 'Checker' reports the volume as 93 when it should be in the 86 to 92 range. After you've made the other two edits, select the whole track and use the 'Amplify...' Effect to change the volume by -4 dB . That is to say, make it this much quieter.

Lou - your new introduction and outro are fine as is your newly-adjusted overall volume.loupo wrote: ↑October 29th, 2020, 7:46 am https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/childrensbookofchristmasstories_34_dickinson_128kb.mp3

By the way, you have no problem with noise floor - I measured that as 57 dB below your voice which is pretty good by our reconing. I was concerned with the volume of the parts where you are talking. Your measurement with ACX tools came pretty close to my measurement with Checker (89 vs 89.5 dB) so feel free to keep using ACX to make sure your chapters aren't too loud or quiet.
However, your closing silence is still only 2 1/2 seconds long and should be 5. Could you please edit 2 1/2 seconds of silence onto the very end and upload that? Then you should be golden. (For now I've marked your section as 'See PL Notes'.)

Sorry! Here it is. Hopefully it's right now. Thanks for the feedback by the way. I'm self-taught and guilty of sticking to the settings I know and not fully understanding the technical blurb so it's really interesting to have some pointers.
