This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-childs-garden-of-verses-version-3-by-robert-louis-stevenson/
A Child's Garden Of Verses is a collection of poems for children written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. The poems mainly concern childhood, illness, play, and solitude.
- Summary by Roma Singh
This project began as a solo reading, but the soloist has decided to BC it as a group project instead. Open for claims!
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/19722
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Since this is a solo recording, I would leave it as is.

just fyi What Jo is saying is that the shorter disclaimer is already in the solo template, no matter how long the sections are. It is always probably better to let the MC decide these sort of things, LV projects can differ wildly :D

I'll be happy to MC for you.

EDIT: Just to double check, you realize that this will be version 3 in the catalogue, don't you? It's great to have multiple versions, but I just want to be sure that you're aware, since some readers prefer to only do books that we don't yet have.

I would recommend using fewer sections. It looks like you've planned one section for each poem. But many of these poems are only four lines long. The recording would be less than one minute. At least one poem is only two lines, and would run less than 30 seconds! I'd combine several poems into one section if I were you. Take a look at how the other soloists have handled it:

https://librivox.org/a-childs-garden-of-verses-by-robert-louis-stevenson-2/

I'll wait to create the MW until you've had a chance to look at this and decide. If I put too many sections in at first, I'll need to delete them one by one later on, so I'd prefer not overshooting it too much, if possible.

Hi! Yes, I am aware that there are multiple versions and I don't mind doing a 3rd one!

Would it be good if I did poems 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, and 41-53? This ensures that I have less sections.
Thank you for MC-ing this! :D

Alright, sounds great. Sorry for the delay in setting this up, but it's ready now.

Now, as soloist, you will act as your own BC. This means it will be your responsibility to update the MW, entering your uploaded files and marked them ready for PL, etc. The first time you log in to the MW, you'll need to set up a new user account. (It's a different system than the one the forum uses.) Here's a helpful how-to for getting in the first time: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxWB83bbALTQYjlENGZ0SVJUWWs Once you're in, this will tell you what you need to know about updating the MW: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ

I've entered the section title for the first section for you, based on your proposed division. But you can still change this. That's one of the beautiful things about a solo. It's easy to make decisions like that as you go along, and change the plan if it's not working. If needed, you can add sections, if five turns out not to be enough. But you can't delete them.

Let me know once you are able to access the MW. Or if you're having trouble, I'll try to help you. (I do know that sometimes clicking "Log out," even if you think you're not logged in, sometimes helps.) Good luck, and have fun with your first solo! I'm here if you need me.
