My name is Greg and I had submitted my test recording about a week ago, but haven't heard anything. I'm new so I probably didn't submit it correctly or something. I emailed it, but I did not include a post here. So before I do anything else, where should I send my test recording?
Hi Greg! Yes, unfortunately, you skipped a crucial step. Just uploading it isn't enough. If you don't post the link to the file, no one will know where to look for it, or even that you submitted anything. Take another look at this page, and pay particular attention to the steps outlined under "Upload your file and get feedback." Please let me know if you have trouble. :D

Thanks, Greg! Nice work on this! Your voice is quite clear and all your tech settings are in place. You are ready to record!

I will mention a couple of things that could become potential problems, but as it is, neither of them would prevent us from using your recording, if this was the real thing.

First, your volume is just a smidge on the low end. I wouldn't mess with it for now, if I were you, for fear of making it too loud, but I point it out so that you don't let it get any softer, either. Currently, you're at 87.2 dB. We aim for 89, with an acceptable range of 86-92. Again, this is well within range, just don't get any quieter.

Second, Checker is flagging this file for a moderate amount of background noise. I can't hear it, but it's quite possible that with better speakers or headphones (or better ears!) that it could be noticeable. It's up to you, and totally not mandatory, but if you want, you could try to clean up the background noise a bit. If you're using Audacity, it's very easy to do. A good how-to is found here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Noisecleaning_With_Pics I myself have to do two rounds of noise cleaning for my current recording environment. :)

As I said, though, those two things are only potentially something to watch out for. You are all clear to start recording your chapter for this book anytime you like!

Okay, good stuff. Yes, I was worried about the background noise. My recording environment could be better. I will follow that link and make the adjustments. Also, I was rather surprised at my levels. I used the auto checker and it came up immediately. I think the version I sent was the third try at getting the levels hot enough. And still a little low! I will get more familiar with the software and use the auto checker before I send my audio.

Thanks again for your help and patience. I will get my recording in this weekend.

Four sections just opened up per the reader's request. Any takers?

Oh, those four open sections are so appealing!
I'd love to take them, but maybe should take much when I'm DPL.....

Anyway, here is the one section I do have, and putting it in the MW.

Great chapter. I'm grateful for the pile lights in my life! That transition from doubt to certainty he speaks of.
And Wesley at Aldersgate! Never know when or where the fire comes. It is a nondescript building easily missed if not looking for the little sign. But, it's still there. Or, it could be a theater in San Francisco, or . . . . or . . . somewhere in the fog, the Pile Light is found.

Yes, I remember skimming over this chapter, and it was excellent. I look forward to hearing it!

Did you see that Casket of Cameos has one orphan now, too? It's the last one we need before cataloguing, if I can tempt you with that one...

Nice reading again!
Thank you.

Could you just trim two second from the end so that the closing silence is closer to just five seconds?

Here are the following two chapters:

7 Pt 1 Ch 7: A Box of Perfume

https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/uttermoststar_07_boreham_128kb.mp3
16:17

8 Pt 1 Ch 8: Slippers

https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/uttermoststar_08_boreham_128kb.mp3
18:27

Chapter 8, especially, resonated with me. I am definitely a "slippers" person.

Thanks,

M
