In attempting to read section 7, there is a spot where the scan is very difficult to read. Would you have an idea of what word goes in on the second page -the first full paragraph. it says "Now these two trifles are types which I should like to ???? by way of proviso and apology..."
It looks like it might start with a "p" but I'm not sure.

It looks like "put" to me. At least that is my best guess, and it makes sense in context of the sentence.
