This is a strange picture description as it makes no reference to the contents of the picture. I thought I had read the wrong bit

well I think the whole paragraph was about attacking Vicksburg from the river, and as such this is what the picture shows isn't it ? These small boats on the right seem to be only carrying one gun, I didn't even know these existed. They look like something out of HG Wells
