Or, to look on the brighter side, if Moliere didn't finish the play then you can imagine any future you would like.

Thanks for the encouragement, Sonia! Having recorded the second act, I hold out hopes that I won't be pining forever. But then again, Molière didn't finish writing the play, so I guess we'll never know. :P
whoops, I nearly overlooked this one, so sorry about that, David. But Tyrene is perfectly PL ok in the second act as well. It is a bit pathetic that those two are happily embracing the "second-best" role with their cruel nymphs.

Thank you so much for helping out here :)

I would be glad to read the nameless shepherd in the comic pastoral as well, although I can't imagine setting his one line to music; those two sentences don't seem to fit any meter. Would it be alright if I simply read them? Or do you have a melody in mind?

Thank you. And I prefer people to just read but not sing anyway so that is fine. (Too hard to know that music is PD.)

Here's the nameless shepherd's lonely line:

Once the bottom of the Molière barrel is fully scraped, I guess we could always start recording alternate translations of his plays.

Yes, that is possible. Or just the same ones over again with different voices on different parts....

Thanks, Todd

Got my parts for 2 Comic Pastorals completed and uploaded. Haven't done a reading in a while, so I hope that that put it in the correct form and so forth.

well first of all, Dale, your performance is absolutely well done  you play the pining lover quite convincingly and I loved all three acts. Pity he didn't have a bigger role, but since this is only a fragment, there's no big roles for anybody here

However, I have a few PL notes for you still before they can be marked ok.

1) first of all, in all three files, a few technical settings need to be adjusted:

> the bitrate needs to be 128kbps constant (yours is variable)
> the sample rate needs to be 44,100 Hz (yours is 48,000)
> the volume is too low (barely 85 dB for Philene, a bit over 83 for Acanthe) could you amplify with +5 or +6 to get into a good average of about 89 dB ?

2) then for the voice credit, please always include the full description that you can read in the MW

"Philene, a rich shepherd in love with Iris, read by Dale Burgess" and "Acanthe, in love with Daphne, read by Dale Burgess"

3) and finally, there are some cuts that can be made, because the bulk of these lines are done by the narrator. You only have to record your direct speeches. Please cut the following:

for Philene:

> from 0:01-0:25: intro disclaimer
> at 0:35: "without perceiving Lycas, sings"
> at 1:39: "sings" – can also be cut
> at 1:48: "Lycas hesitates to fight"
> at 1:57: "to Iris"
> at 2:53: "drawing his javelin"
> at 3:20-3:30: end disclaimer

for Acanthe Act 1:

> from 0:01-0:24: intro disclaimer
> at 0:35: "to Daphne"
> at 1:04: end disclaimer

for Acanthe Act 2:

> from 0:01-0:20: intro disclaimer
> at 0:57: "to Tyrene"
> at 1:17: end disclaimer

Oh and while it doesn't matter so much here, please note that the file names never should include capital letters (just for future recordings :) )

thank you

thank you, Kathi, and I'm happy you liked the drama process :) I agree, it's fun and addictive.

Daphne sounds cute, a bit bewildered in her love, which is a nice contrast to my Eroxene, so I am already looking forward to hearing us both assembled in dialogue :9:

I have a few small notes for correction though:

> for the voice credit, best say "read by Kathy..."

> at 1:17: (p. 304) "you have given me back my own" – you say "your own"

> at 2:08: (p. 305) "and had I a hundred hearts" – you say "years"

> at 4:42: (p. 311) "and leave us to be the judges of your deserts" – this means "merits" (not the sandy areas of the world) and should be stressed on the second syllable (exactly like "dessert" in fact)

> at 4:44: could you leave more silence (at least 2 seconds) between these quotes, as it's easier for the editor to copy/paste the bits if there is enough space between

thanks
