Here is my corrected version: https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/keepwellstories_19_farinholtjones_128kb.mp3
07:42

Thanks!
Somewhere in the processing you've done your audio has gotten clipped - you can hear this as a harsh sound in the loud syllables in the reading. (You can see this in the waveform as well - pick a loud spot and click the magnifying-glass-with-a-plus icon several times. The tops and bottoms of the waveform you'll see are squared off and not nice rounded sine waves.)

The overall level is too loud as well. "Checker" reports a volume at 94 dB when it should be in the 86 - 92 dB range. Just reducing the volume at this point will not get rid of the clipping distortion, alas.

Is it possible for you to go back to the version you first uploaded - which didn't have the clipping distortion - and just delete the "End of Keep-Well Stories for Little Folks, by May Farinholt-Jones" at the end of the reading and upload that? If you didn't save the first version you uploaded I have a saved copy of it on my computer. If need be I could make the edit for you and upload it. Let me know. (Everything in the first recording is word-for-word perfect except for the extra closing bit.)

uh oh, i may have gone overboard when making some changes! okay, hopefully this one is okay. :-)

Closer - you don't have the distortion, which is a Very Good Thing. But your upload volume is a bit low. If you could take the last version you uploaded and amplify it by 4 or 5 dB. Make sure the file is named:

keepwellstories_19_farinholtjones_128kb.mp3

and upload once more. Thanks.

Thanks for sticking with it, Lily! I promise it will get easier the more you do it, and you'll begin running into fewer problems! :D

When processing recordings, I find that, generally, less is more. Some noise reduction and maybe a bit of amplification is often enough for most readers.

If you are using Audacity, there is a very easy way to know whether or not your file has clipping (that distortion that happens when a spot is too loud). Under the View menu at the top, there is a setting called Show Clipping. You can toggle this on and off. If you toggle it on, then any clipping will show up as a red vertical bar or line on your track. It makes it very easy to know when it's too loud. :)

PL OK! Thanks for the fix.
I noticed my reader page says there are PL Notes still for this section. Just want to make sure I didn’t miss something that needed to be fixed.

I downloaded the chapter and double checked it. It is in fact PL OK. Now it's fixed in the magic window - I must have selected the wrong item in the pull down list when I was marking your chapter.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! This is definitely a learning curve, but it's fun to learn new things. :D

You've got it, section 19 is now PL OK. Thanks for sticking through the fixes, and thanks for including the duration.

Just so you know, "checker" found your volume for the section is 90.2 dB, comfortably near the middle of the 86 - 92 dB range.

Yippie! Keep-Well Stories is underway again after a bit of a pause.

Section 4 - Jack Frost - PL OK. Thank you.
Jack Frost didn't visit me last winter - I moved into new digs with well-insulated windows.
There's nothing to edit here; your reading follows the text exactly. I'll keep an eye out for your chapters 14 and 21.
