Thank you for catching that! I changed it and reuploaded it: https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor044_triumphnight_wharton_dwd_128kb.mp3

There was no change to the duration.

Hello! I would like to submit one of Lovecraft's earlier (but still thoroughly imbued with cosmic madness) pieces:

Welcome to Librivox, Edith! And congrats on your first upload, but even though it's one of his earlier works, it's not early enough  Published in 1925, it enters public domain on 1st January 2021. Would you like to keep it safe for a few months more? I'll have to delete it from our servers as it's not yet safe for Librivox to host it.

Understood. I'll hang onto it and give it another shot in February 2021. Quick question: I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, but I'm confused... Because there are stories in the catalogue published after 1925, I was viewing things through the lens of gradations outlined https://www.biblio.com/blog/2010/07/how-to-determine-if-a-book-is-in-the-public-domain/. Do you have a better source for making this determination? Just trying to be proactive rather than end up wasting your time.

No worries, it's a reasonable question. The link you showed me seems to have the correct information. So the work you chose falls in the category of works published 1923-1963, which means it enters the public domain 95 years (28+ the extended 67) after it was published, but always on the next 1st of January. In our case, 1925+95=2020 => 1st January 2021.
There is the provision that the 1925 copyright must have been renewed in order to be still copyrighted. In Librivox we don't have a legal team to check the copyrights, but we trust Gutenberg, which has a dedicated legal team, and you'll see works published after 1925 in Gutenberg that haven't had their copyright renewed so they are already in the public domain and these can be recorded for Librivox. Also government works (which are automatically in the public domain, reason (3) in your linked article) have been recorded for Librivox.
So probably what you've seen in the Librivox catalogue are Government works, or works that haven't had their copyright renewed and were checked/cleared by Gutenberg.
I hope this makes sense.

Thank you for taking the time to clarify-- that does make sense. Henceforth I will just use Gutenberg as my 'bible'. I very much appreciate your patience and apologize for the poor first impression.

Definitely not a poor first impression! Love the enthusiasm and appreciate your willingness to learn. Gutenberg is indeed a bible for public domain works! (However, even at Gutenberg.org, always check the copyright status information of the works, at the bottom of their gutenberg page, because there are a few copyrighted works there, eg Kafka's Metamorphosis http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5200 )

And any scanned work with visible publication information, published before 1925 ( or 1925 inclusive, from 1st January 2021) like at archive.org, hathitrust.org, etc, are also good sources.

Thanks again,

Hello hello!
I have a quick question about the introduction to a recording. I would like to read Visions of the Night by Ambrose Bierce. It is included in a collection of his works. Do I include this in the introduction of the recording? i.e. "Visions of the Night, from the collected works of Ambrose Bierce" ?? Or do I simply record "Visions of the Night, by Ambrose Bierce"?

Thanks so much!

Both would be acceptable! I would personally just say "Visions of the Night, by Ambrose Bierce" :D
