When you are the President of the United States and you are delivering your State of the Union Address...

When you think you're ready to record. But you're not.

So I have a very elderly chihuahua/minpin mix (she'll be 17 the end of October if she lasts that long...) and she has a common old age condition for small breeds, collapsing trachea, which makes her cough a lot. The cough comes and goes, sometimes she will cough these big goose honk coughs for hours on end, sometimes it will be quiet for days. She likes to be near me, and I have a dog bed under my desk, tho due to the coughing I usually send her elsewhere before I try to record.
So I had been editing a long piece and she had been snoozing and I was about ready to quit for the day, when I decided to quickly try to record the 292-word piece I had signed up for in the current Birds issue. It should only be about 2-3 minutes. What can go wrong?
Checked on Joey, she's sound asleep. Okay. So off I go....but less than 30 seconds in....

(I ended up moving her to the far side of the house, finished the recording, and then made up to her for her abrupt removal with a little shredded cheese on her dinner as a special treat....)

She does all right...she still loves taking her walks (though they are shorter these days) and still dances around the kitchen at feeding times. She’s had a heart defect all her life and we never expected her to make it to high senior years. She’s had the cough for about a year but just keeps going. Sadly she was diagnosed with cancer in February, and was given 6 weeks to 6 months and has exceeded that as well. I’m actually a little grateful for the lockdown/social distancing because it’s given us time to hang out with her. Though I do have to work recording sessions around her more severe coughing fits, as you heard!

Words that you learn at Librivox.
"...tinder the present law..."
No, it's "under the present law", a typo sent me on an etymological hunt.

I typically use Punch and Roll to record so finding this blooper while editing a part in a play is extra special to me:
