Thanks, Bookworm! It doesn't really have to be Scottish -- you can do whatever you like with it. :D

All right, but I still want to be accurate.

That'd be wonderful if you tried Scottish. Might be fun. :D I've done it before, but it usually comes out like Mel Gibson doing Scottish in Braveheart. And then I invariably end up saying "you can take our lives, but you can never take our FREEDOM!"

Thanks, Diego! I did enjoy!

The proper link is:

I have 2 small requests, but you can add them both to your next chapter submission and don't need to edit this one:

First, I need one voice credit in which you say: "Dan King read by..." -- the word "read" is missing in your previous submission. After that (once I've got one complete one), you don't need to put your voice credit on your files.

Also I found a partial sentence in Chapter 5 (p. 2) in which Dan is paraphrased, which I hadn't color coded in orange, but I'd prefer it in your voice:

Dan, however, lent him one, on the distinct understanding that it was to be repaid the next week.

Could you please add "it was to be repaid the next week" to your next chapter file?

I love your laugh!

Thanks,
TJ

Excellent, Diego! Your background noise is now down to preferred levels (24.2 - perfect!) and your volume is almost up to our aim of 86-92 dB (but with 84.1 it is still a little low, but close enough for this chapter). For your future files, you could highlight the whole recording and using effects/amplify, you could amplify the whole recording by 2 dB. The recording then will sound a little better than if I amplify it after it's been converted to mp3.

Also in the future, please leave a little space for narration:

"I don't believe that will do any good," said Dan. [2-3 seconds pause] "He gives lots of things, but he doesn't give money, because people can earn that for themselves."

That will help me when I'm editing the chapters in which you have larger text.

Your voice credit is now perfect -- you don't need to add that to any future file. And thanks for that extra line for chapter 5! Keep up the good work!

Chapters 5 & 6 are PL OK!

Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to know if you have checked chapter 7 for me. I don't want to submit chapter 8 until chapter 7 is okay. Thanks!

I found one paraphrased line for Mrs. Ray in Chapter 29, if you're interested, Kimberly:

"Cecily did not write back, because Mrs. Ray had decreed that no letters must be taken down from the hill farm lest they carry infection. "
(you can submit a separate file).

Also, there's a point in Chapter 29 when Felix, Dan, Bev, Cecily, and Felicity all cry -- when they think Peter is going to die (at the top of page 3). I already have Felicity and Cecily crying, but could I please get Dan and Felix to cry too, Elijah and Diego? (You could add it to the end of the chapter when you record chapter 29).

"We all, even Dan, cried, except the Story Girl."

Thanks,
TJ

Hi Diego,

Listened to your chapter 7 file for Dan. Volume is good now. Yay! Text is word perfect. Yay! Only one item left on my list: noise cleaning.

Did you noise clean the file? At 47.8 dB, it is too high. And you can hear the difference when I plugged it in to our chapter file (even after I ran it through noise reduction). It sounds like you are in a different place from Cecily and Felicity.

If you haven't done this before, I'll give you some quick instructions on how to noise clean in Audacity. It takes about 2 seconds and you should do it with every file you record.

1. When recording, record about 5 seconds at the end of your recording in which you don't speak (or breathe) -- the purpose of this is to record just the background noise (mostly the sound of your computer). The next step will be to subtract the sound of the computer from your recording.

2. Highlight a section of the file in which you did not speak (or breathe) with your cursor.

3. Select "Effect" from the toolbar at the top of Audacity, then select "Noise Reduction", then select "Get Noise Profile".

Settings for Noise Reduction that I typically use are:
Noise Reduction (dB): 12
Sensitivity: 6.00
Frequency smoothing (bands): 3

4. Now highlight your entire file (CTRL-A / Command-A).

5. Then select "Effect", then select "Repeat Noise Reduction" right up at the top.

Ta Da! Done.

Hi, I could read Donald Fraser, if no one else would like to, if I may. Thanks!
