Letters of Oscar Wilde, Volume 5 (1898-1900) by Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/letters-of-oscar-wilde-volume-5-1898-1899-by-oscar-wilde/

NOTE: The title and summary of the collection have changed since the project began.

This fifth and final collection of the correspondence of Oscar Wilde includes many letters to his friend, Robert Ross, and a long letter about prison reform to the editor of the Daily Chronicle. For most of the last three years of his life Wilde lived in Paris, but his letters also describe visits to Switzerland and Italy. The collection ends with one of Wilde's last surviving letters, which he wrote from his deathbed to beg a friend for money to pay his medical bills. The letters, some of which have been excerpted or redacted, are sourced from auction catalogues, biographies, collections of letters to Ross, and other texts in the public domain. For a complete collection of Wilde's letters, please see "The Complete Letters of Oscar Wilde," (2000) edited by Merlin Holland and Rupert Hart-Davis. (Rob Marland)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): I will read from multiple sources, which can be found here (this spreadsheet will be deleted when the project is finished): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hVkrUSyMzhFtsu_-3eUOMYMOoDgMuvVwdcerglwlo3I/edit#gid=0

Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi
I know that you haven't found an MC yet but I would absolutely love to DPL. I consider Oscar Wilde to be my spirit animal and I would never let such an opportunity go.
Thanks

Thanks for offering! It would be great if you could PL. However, could I draw your attention to the previous volume in the series, which is still awaiting a DPL? viewtopic.php?f=12&t=82451

If you would like to start PLing sooner rather than later, there are already files ready for download there.

I would be happy for you to DPL both 4 and 5, or just start with volume 4 and decide later if you want to continue. Whatever you prefer. There will be 6 volumes in total.

Hi Rob,
I can get you set up in the morning. You’re ok with setting up the metadata for the section text?

Well I hope to get a lot of free time the next two weeks so I don't mind DPL-ing both of them. I'll start working on volume 4 right away.

Thanks a lot. Yes, thanks, I've had a bit of practice with adding the section text so no problem there.

Hi
I started to PL the audios but the spreadsheet you've attached doesn't have any links to these particular letters, could you please let me know what the source is?
Thanks

Sorry, I should have explained. If you look at the bottom of the sheet, there are separate tabs for each of the 6 volumes.

Section 2 is PL OK.
Also you have a lovely, beautiful reading voice. I loved hearing the audio!

Section 3 is alright but there is a very faint buzz sort of thing that recordings sometimes have, it's not at all disturbing your voice recording but it's still there. If you think it's something you can get rid of, great, otherwise the section is PL OK.
I hope I haven't increased your work by a lot.
