Well, well, well,Kitty wrote: ↑September 1st, 2020, 5:26 am so here is Mrs Smythe, hopefully suitably vampy-femme-fataly enough for your purposes. I figured, recording in a red silken négligé, cognac in hand, would help matters along.

Oh and apart for one sentence, I decided not to join the crowd readings, because on each occasion, I had a sentence right before or after the merged voices, so I figured it wasn't at all logical she would join there as well. If you think you need one sentence, let me know, and I'll add it.

It's a femme fatale.
Wonderfully done. I quickly checked to see - er, no, never mind. That is a nice color red though.....
Act 2 PL OK. I think your best lines were here in this act.
In Act 3 @ 8:58, you say "She'll be a wonderful wife if she get her on your terms" - text reads "She'll be a wonderful wife if you get her on your terms"
Thanks, Todd
I guess the listener's imagination is helping the performance !
I relistened and although I actually said "you", I understand that it was a bit too fast and mumbled to be understood correctly, so I re-did the whole sentence. I hope you can hear it clearer now. The message needs to be correct after all.In Act 3 @ 8:58, you say "She'll be a wonderful wife if she get her on your terms" - text reads "She'll be a wonderful wife if you get her on your terms"

A plunging neckline? My dear Todd, it was a positively reckless dive!
Anyway, I think we have found the Thinking Man's Mae West.

Stage directions, act 1 @ 51:47
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/civilianclothes_stagedirections_1_128kb.mp3
My, that was a long read. Admittedly there's a lot of silence in it. I wonder how long the assembled Act will be.
There was one stage direction I didn't understand "She moves U. S.", p43.3 @40:40. I suspect it's a typo for U.C.
I read as is.
Best,
Adrian

I don't know what a T. Williams accent should sound like, but this was a wonderful performance. He is so jovial, aloof and sure of himself. Excellently done and so different from the doddering fool you played in The Weaker Sex Again goes to show that nobody should be typecast. I especially love the smug laughs you brought in on several occasion. Good job, looking forward to the next act !alanmapstone wrote: ↑September 4th, 2020, 9:18 amLanham act 1

he's a Pinero for stage directions ! Yes indeed this is very long, so I really suspect we need to split the act in two. The next act has already two parts, but this one probably will need to be split as well. Todd will surely find a good place where to split.adrianstephens wrote: ↑September 5th, 2020, 4:10 amStage directions, act 1 @ 51:47

Wow, this was really a huge job, Adrian. Considering you were also contemplating the cushy number of the hotel maid thank you so much for tackling this one instead. And I think you have great lines here as well, you say a lot of witty funny remarks which made me chuckle. So the narrator is kinda part of the show here.
I did find a few notes to add still, but considering it was almost one hour long, it wasn't that many PL notes:
> at about 0:01: can you give us an alternative intro, just in case Todd needs to split the act in two parts: "Act 1 Part 1 of Civilian Clothes..." and "Act 1 Part 2 of Civilian Clothes..."
> at about 1:23: (p. 7) we usually also include the "scenes" descriptions for the 3 acts in this spot (bottom of p. 7)
> at 28:22: (p. 31) "Mrs Lanham, sharply" - beginning of line, we need to include the name
> at about 34:54: (p. 38) missed line "Pause"
> at 40:38: (p. 43) "She moves U.S." - I think this means "up-stage", would make more sense in context
> at 47:20: (p. 49) "McGinnis, turning front" - name needs to be included
> at 48:00: (p. 49) "McGinnis, pause, his face suddenly lights" - name needs to be included
> at about 51:53: can you give us also alternative end disclaimers: "End of Act 1 Part 1" and "End of Act 1 Part 2"
thanks

If you see that the next files will be just as long, you can also immediately think of including the intro/outro for respective "Parts 1 and 2" already. But maybe they are shorter (one can hope)

End of Act 1 is almost half way through the book. Hopefully Acts 2 and 3 will be more digestable.
