Thanks for your proof-listening patience on this project. I appreciate the feedback. Will try harder to soften the “percussive” noise. My headphone/mic is a Logitech with pivoting headphone, so I’ll need to focus on standardized positioning of the mic going forward. The long silence at the beginning is driving me mad, especially on Section 18 which I finally conquered. Every time I exported to MP3 from Audacity, it kept adding seconds to the start on the MP3. Never could tell why.
• Basalt – couldn’t bear for this to go to press with such a gaffe. Clearly I’m no geologist. I re-recorded all the segments referring to it with correct pronunciation.
• All Sections – Amended silence to less than 1 second at start and 5 seconds at end
• Section 29 – 15:00 mark – Didn’t understand your comment about his turn of phrase. I listened and it corresponds to the text – am I missing something?
• Section 30 – corrections to 3 “air blasts” around 7:50 8:24 and 14:04 and “nattily” at 5:26 . Increased volume
• Section 18 – “Basalt” re-recorded. Bleeped the bing at 3:37. Great catch.
I enjoyed working on this with you.

Great work! Whatever your mic setup was for section 18 you should go back to in the future. The audio qualities were special.
My comment on section 29 at the 15:00 mark was just that: a comment, not a call to action. Every once in a while DHL writes a phrase that really strikes my fancy. Likening a son to a satellite just tickled me. It also reminds me now of a scurrilous "Fat Momma" joke: "Yo momma so fat, she got other fat mommas in orbit around her." (Surely, someday I'll be struck by lightning!)
Lisa, it is a pleasure to work with you too. A bunch of good readers have contributed to this project. I hope to tempt them to join in future projects I'm associated with.

I would re-record the segment between 1:54 and 2:01. Something of a racket.

I'll do that while I'm waiting for the coffee to finish brewing.

Section 38 is PL OK!
It seems to me, having heard almost the entire book, that DHL spent much of the second half of the book describing the flowers, trees, weeds, brush, etc. Perhaps he had promised his published X-number of pages and was filling out the commitment.
Of special note in this section, the last of the book, from about the 22 minute mark and thereafter to the 26 minute mark, is the description of how the colored paper streamers reached between the departing people on the ocean liner and those left behind on the wharf. It struck me as being very poignant and symbolic.

Section 5 (24:44)
I found two tiny glitches and one foreign pronunciation for which I can give guidance -- and did so at length, maybe too much length.
3:27 heard " put back into [second] place" the word second is missing
12:35.5
This is NOT really an error to your most excellent recitation, but something I'm sharing from my youth:
"Du bist wie eine Blume” is a very famous poem by Heinrich Heine set to music by many composers.
The proper pronunciation of this German phrase is:
Doo beest Vee eye-nuh bloom-uh...
Here is the German continuation:
Du bist wie eine Blume,
So hold und schön und rein;
Ich schau’ dich an, und Wehmut
Schleicht mir ins Herz hinein.
In English:
You are like a flower,
So sweet and fair and pure;
I look at you, and sadness
Steals into my heart.
18:50 heard "Harriet STAYED at the sudden revelation"
s/b "Harriet STARTED at the sudden revelation"
I really enjoyed your reading. DO MORE!
