Homilies on Colossians by St. John Chrysostom (c. 349 - c. 407). Translated by Philip Schaff (1819 - 1893)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/homilies-on-colossians-by-st-john-chrysostom/

"Holy indeed are all the Epistles of Paul: but some advantage have those which he sent after he was in bonds: those, for instance, to the Ephesians and Philemon: that to Timothy, that to the Philippians, and the one before us: for this also was sent when he was a prisoner,…

"But why do I say that these Epistles have some advantage over the rest in this respect, because he writes while in bonds? As if a champion were to write in the midst of carnage and victory; so also in truth did he. For himself too was aware that this was a great thing, for writing to Philemon he saith, “Whom I have begotten in my bonds.”

"And this he said, that we should not be dispirited when in adversity, but even rejoice." (St John Chrysostom, from Homily 1)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://ccel.org/ccel/schaff/npnf113/npnf113.iv.iv.i.html
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you, Ann! I thought I'd be on my way home now, but there's a tropical storm raging outside. So, I'm catching up on email on borrowed computer. I've been doing prereading for my projects and hope to be back to recording in a couple of days.

Peace be with you,
Sister

Section 4 PL NOTES

11:53 — wrong word ... So...
“ so that so it is” should read “For that so it is... “
( Use your own judgement I don’t think this is affecting the meaning really and may not be
worth the trouble to fix it )

18:15 — missing words... “ but rhetoric”
Should read “...not the great doctrine, but rhetoric, and expertness... “
