THE JIM CROW CAR; OR, DENOUNCEMENT OF INJUSTICE METED OUT TO THE BLACK RACE. by John Clay Coleman (1876 - 0).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-jim-crow-car-by-john-clay-coleman/
"My opposition to injustice, imposition, discrimination and prejudice, which have for many years existed against the colored people of the South, has led to this little book. In many parts of America the press has been furnished with “matter” for defending the colored people, through the medium of “Coleman’s Illustrated Lectures.” By request of my many auditors, some of whom being leading elements of the Northern States and Canada, this volume is published. Many persons interested in the welfare of the negro, have sought a more elaborate book on the Southern horrors. Therefore, the manner in which the colored people are treated, and the laws devised against them from time to time, are the chief subjects." -- Rev. J.C. Coleman.
Quoting extensively from Henry McNeal Turner and Ida B. Wells-Barnett, as well as his own experiences traveling in the South and on segregated American railroad lines, the Reverend John Clay Coleman published this book on the state of the Jim Crow era in the American South, examining the US Supreme Court decision declaring the Civil Rights Act of 1875 unconstitutional, the horrors of lynching (and his own experience raising a guard of black citizens of Decatur, IL, to protect the life of a man jailed there), and the degradation of segregation. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is set up.

I shortened the suggested file name. :)

I'm not sure how you want to divide this up. Holler if you have questions about that.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here:
Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark it from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Awesome! Thank you!

My plan was to do each section individually -- Preface, Intro, six chapters -- and then since Chapter 2 is 15,000 words long, to break that into three parts. Ten total.

I'll get right on it.

Okay - since you've got two sections that are introductory material, numbering one of them as "zero" doesn't make sense. I'll make it so they're numbered starting with 1. :)

Moving this to Going Solo.

You can start recording before getting a DPL. If we don't get one soon, we can advertise for one over in Listeners & Editors Wanted.

All right, the recording's done. Is there anything I should do to draft a DPL? I've never done it before, but I'd happily trade listening with someone else...

Whoa - that was fast!

Go here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/ProofListening_Template and follow the instructions to post an ad over in "Listeners & Editors Wanted."

It says to put IP in the subject line (with some other stuff). Put C instead of IP, to indicate "complete" rather than "in progress".

Holler if you have questions about what to do. :)

EDIT: Never mind - I did it: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=81715

sweaver - how would you like your name to show on catalog pages? (If you ever get into recording, I'd suggest using whatever you'd want people to know you by when you say, "recording by ___" so that they can find you if they look for you in the catalog.) Your forum username is fine, or your real name, or a pseudonym.

Once I have this, I can put you into the Magic Window as the DPL and give you MW access. :)

Sweet! I'm logged in. I'm going through and PL'ing all chapters now. Is there anything I need to do other than the standard PL'ing of all chapters?
Many thanks,
Siler
