I'm going to stay with my pronunciation.
The word here is "slough" (not sough)
As a verb it is "sluff" but as a noun it can be either "slow" or "sloo." Where I'm from these marshy areas are "sloos." (or slews or slues or something although that is enough tough stuff to get through)
