Letters of Oscar Wilde, Volume 1 (1868-1890) by Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/letters-of-oscar-wilde-volume-1-1868-1890-by-oscar-wilde/
This first collection of the correspondence of Oscar Wilde begins with the Irish playwright's earliest extant letter, thanking his mother for the hamper she had sent to him at school. It includes letters about his travels in Italy, his American lecture tour, the staging of his first play (Vera, or the Nihilists), arrangements for the publication of a friend's poetry collection, and exchanges in the press with artist James McNeill Whistler. The letters, some of which have been excerpted or redacted, are sourced from auction catalogues, newspapers, biographies, and other texts in the public domain. For a complete collection of Wilde's letters, please see "The Complete Letters of Oscar Wilde," (2000) edited by Merlin Holland and Rupert Hart-Davis. (Rob Marland)
Text source (only read from this text!): I will read from multiple sources, which can be found here (this spreadsheet will be deleted when the project is finished): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hVkrUSyMzhFtsu_-3eUOMYMOoDgMuvVwdcerglwlo3I/edit#gid=0

Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is set up. A couple notes/questions:

1) We do need an author in the file name. These are all written by Wilde? That should be easy, then. :) If not, we could put "various".
2) I've added "Volume" to your project title. I think just a "1" looks weird. I didn't change your intro/outro; you can decide if you want to say "volume".
3) You're comfortable adding metadata to the MW sections?

Thanks, Tricia!
I will also include a few letters to Wilde for context, but not so many that I think it is necessary to add another author. I think just Wilde would be fine.

Yes, fair enough about volume. Sounds better.

Yes, I can add the individual etext links to each section.

Oh man, I've got some listening to do! 2 to 7 are PL OK
Turns out he was very opinionated when it came to Italy!

Thanks, Julian. And no rush. I sometimes try to record quickly, but I don't want anyone to feel pressured to PL at the same speed.

No worries, they're only short and I'm very much not busy at the moment so I should get through them reasonably quickly. Everything up to 16 is PL OK, with the exception of 13 which has a repeat at 2:35.
