This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/vekhi-by-various/

Vekhi (Landmarks) is a collection of philosophical essays about the Russian intelligentsia and its historical role, originally published in 1909. Its authors (Nikolai Berdyaev, Sergei Bulgakov, Semyon Frank, Mikhail Gershenzon, Aron Izgoev, Bogdan Kistyakovski, and Peter Struve), analyzed their own experience as participants in the revolution of 1905, and leveled a number of criticisms at revolutionary intelligentsia, faulting it, in particular, for elevating political goals above spiritual values. They called for setting aside partisanship in the cultural sphere and messianic visions in politics, and embracing the principles of personal responsibility and rule of law. The publication of Vekhi provoked impassioned public debate. Its positions were rejected by most representatives of social-democratic and liberal currents. More than half a century later, Alexander Solzhenitsyn would write: "even today Vekhi seem to us as if they were sent from the future..."

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is a collection of essays by several authors. I don't want to make it a collection project, in part because some of the essays will need to be split into several sections, but I do want it to be searchable by author names. I hope it's not too difficult to have a book with 7 authors. It would also be great to have "shadow" catalog pages for the authors, with their names in their original Cyrillic form. I've listed them below in the format "LAST NAME, FIRST NAMES".

Mikhail GershenzonMAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Gershenzon

Nikolai BerdyaevMAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolai_Berdyaev

Sergei BulgakovMAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Bulgakov

Aron Lande (Izgoev) MAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9B%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B4%D0%B5,_%D0%90%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%BD_%D0%A1%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87
Aron Lande (pen name Izgoev) (1872 - 1935) was a Russian lawyer, politician and author.

Bogdan Kistyakovski MAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9A%D0%B8%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8F%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9,_%D0%91%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BD_%D0%90%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%81%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B4%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87
Bogdan Kistyakovski (1868 - 1920) was a Russian and Ukrainian legal scholar, philosopher, and sociologist.

Peter Struve MAS - already in author database, added Russian.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Struve

Semyon Frank MAS - added to authors in Eng and Russian.

Michael,

I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get your MW set up.

I can enter the authors individually as you suggest, without making it a collection. Give me a couple of days to finish that and get the Cyrillic text input.

Sec.2 is a pleasure to listen! Amazing how modern Berdyaev sounds!
Misha, you asked to comment on stresses:
9:22 - "мучили проклятые вопросы". You say "прOклятые", I think Berdyaev meant проклЯтые, your call.
You say "учИтелями", I'd say "учителЯми", your call.
You say "догмAты", dictionaries say "дOгматы": https://obrazovaka.ru/udarenie/v-slove-dogmat
16:06 -- same thing, "остается моральнымъ дOгматомъ"

At the Standard PL level, it should be a resounding PL OK, but if you wish to correct I'd be happy to spot PL.

Thank you, Mark! This is perfect.

Section 2 is ready for spot PL.
