My name is Tristan Mazurek, and I wanted to help contribute to the Short Poetry collection. I've been wanting to do voiceover work for years, and reading poetry seems like a really good way to dip my toes into the water. I hope I haven't forgotten anything in this submission!

Welcome to Librivox and to the Poetry Collection, Tristan!

Thank you for your contribution! I hope you enjoyed recording a poem! Here is your Reader Page in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/reader/14613 which you can also access through your name-link in the Magic Window. It lists projects you read for and it can also help you keep track of your sections in ongoing projects under the "Reader section details" link.

I also checked your file's tech specs. All good! Just the volume is a bit on the soft side. For your future recordings, check if you can increase the input volume a bit so that, when you record, the wave form peaks above the 0.5 mark in Audacity; that is a good visual hint.
No need to change anything in this recording! It is now in the Magic Window, marked PL OK!

Hello Sarah! Welcome to the Poetry Collection!

For a text to be in the public domain, it needs to have been published more than 95 years ago, i.e. before 1925. I don't know if Georgiana ever published her writings, but the closest I could find for the poem you are suggesting, is one in "The Ladies' Own Memorandum-book, Or Daily Pocket Journal, for the Year 1802" under the title "An unfortunate mother to her infant at her breast" and not attributed to anybody. So in your recording, you would use this title and say "An unfortunate mother to her infant at her breast, by Anonymous" and read from here:
https://books.google.com/books?id=Ew3yIklkeR4C&pg=PT21&lpg=PT21&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false

Generally gutenberg.org is the preferred text source, so for the other two poems, please read
The Cowboy's Life here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21300
and In the Vales, here: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14953

Thank you!

Thanks.

I also want to ask; is it possible to upload a poem if said poem is has no name? Is there an existing term for it?

Usually the untitled poems go by their first line. Which poem are you referring to?

FIRST: Congratulations on you anniversary with the Monthly Short Poetry Collection.
What you do consistently, month after month -- well pretty much day after day, is a marvelous contribution to the LibriVox mission and to the LV community. I admire the way you help many new readers get off to a good start, and the encouragement give to one and all, even us old hands who love poetry so much. :9:

Something a bit different for this month, a poem that introduces a book. The author of the poem was a student and admirer of Erasmus Darwin.

I wasn't quite sure how to title this one so I gave it my best guess.

Let me know if I need to fix up anything.

Thanks,

Thank you! The titling works just fine! Your voice and reading is lovely! MW updated!

Rapunzelina -

I just uploaded the following:

Title: Third Ode of ‘Amr Son of Qami’ah (c. 5th century) translated by Charles James Lyall (1845-1920)
Wikipedia Article on Translator: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_James_Lyall
Text URL: https://archive.org/details/poemsofamrsonofq00amriuoft/page/25/mode/1up
Duration: 04:00
MP3 URL: https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/spc206_thirdodeamrbinqamiah_dwd_128kb.mp3

This is part of a separate project I hope to explore, which is to introduce some Arabic literature in translation (as well as Islamic historical documents that are PD) into the catalogue. The poet is regrettably so obscure that he does not have his own Wikipedia article. The book by Lyall used as the source is probably the most extensive biographical data on him. As to who to link the poem to in the Librivox catalogue, I think that it would make some sense to link it to Charles James Lyall (1845-1920), who was something of a celebrity himself. I've included a link to the Wikipedia article on Lyall, because I don't think there's a record for him in the Librivox catalogue either.

A poem by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. "The first line is For Gold the test by fire is made". Will that work as a title?

This must be a translation, so you have to check if it was published before 1925 and is thus in the public domain.

Do you have a text source that I could help you check the text?
