I'm trying to get some inspiration on what titles I might listen to.
A list of authors with one or more titles in a specific language, is a good starting point.
How should I browse the catalog in order to get such list ?
I haven't found a way to do so yet, not even on the "advanced search".
Thanks for any clue!

I don't think you can do it with our search.

If you're tech savvy, you might be able to do something like this using our API. Here's a thread for discussion on the API: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=44129&hilit=api
Mystery/PulpFic: Dope, by Sax Rohmer
The one that started them all: Self-Help, by Samuel Smiles
Elizabethan Poetry: The Psalmes of David

In which languages are you interested. Our LV members are pretty good at making recommendations.

I'm interested in titles in Dutch, French, German & English.
In Belgium, being quadrilingual is quite common :-)

It's always nice to get recommendations, but I prefer to explore the catalog myself.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to make available such queries?
One basic way to reach many more readers.

The search functionality is admittedly poor. It is on the list of things to improve someday, when we have the ability to do another site rework. :)

Would a search in the archive database give more options? (I've never really understood any of this.) If one were to search for 'LibriVox' and 'Dutch' for instance?

Searching on "LibriVox Dutch" returns all LV works with Dutch anywhere in the record, including English works ("Dutch Courage and Other Stories
by Jack London" as an example).

If you search on

Code: Select all

Librivox "read in Dutch"
(with the quotes)

It seems to return Dutch works. But it only pulls up 34 of them.

I don't think there's a sure-fire way of searching by language at Archive, because our cataloging system doesn't insert the language into any reliably searchable fields there.

Thank you! (That's a start!)

The advanced search on Archive does give all works read in the Dutch language - and if you also restrict it to Solos is fine - but if you don't include the Solo in the search it will give every contribution in any multilingual collection that contains a Dutch contribution. This is a known and annoying glitch but I suppose it is better to have too much information than too little. Maybe.

It is possible to bring up all the recordings in a specific language in our catalog. The issue here, if I understand the original question correctly, is getting the answer set to (1) sort by author and (2) return a list of the authors found as opposed to the list of recorded works.
