I think Chapter 6 is ready for PL. 14m23.53s. Still working on the clicks and hums... but I think I've got breathing figured out... :)
https://librivox.org/uploads/aradlaw/oregoncountry_06_putnam_128kb.mp3. BTW, how do you typically do noise reduction? Just once, or more? Settings?

Thanks!

Thank you!
I will have a PL report for you soon.

Great!
It is up for PL :)

I'll be on vacation next week up near Mt. Washington our windy highest peak out here, but will have my headphones for pleasant listening in the evening, which this will be.

Ah yes, Mt. Washington. Just about a 2 hour drive east from Eugene where I was raised.
Enjoy!

Yeah, I wonder how many Mt. Washingtons there are? This one sits next to Mt. Adams (probably a lot of those too). We have a whole group of presidential mountains in New Hampshire. I grew up near the Blue Mountains in northeastern Oregon, but I'm sure there are a lot of Blue Mountains, too, But, only one Umatilla River and only one Walla Walla River.

PL OK
Didn't see any deer on our trip, but standing on my cabin porch, a bear sauntered by almost close enough to touch. I proffered no greeting and let him pass on his way!

Perfect! PL OK
All sections are taken, but if you want another one, I'd gladly give you the Dedication and Introduction to read. Just let me know.

For noise reduction, I try to do just one pass. I keep mine set on 12 which is usually adequate. Depending on your noise level, you might try a lower setting. I might go as high as 15, but the audio starts to degrade, so I will do two passes at a lower setting which seems to give less distortion. That is just my amateur approach, so you'll have to take it FWIW.

Love your reading. :D

Thank you for the FWIWs and for the encouragement, Larry! I'm definitely enjoying the experience, as well as learning a lot! :D

Sure, I'd be happy to do the dedication and introduction... I just took my first look at them, though, and am not quite sure where I would start, where my "librivox" speeches go, and whether they would be maybe a bit different, and where to stop... need a little help with all that. And would I read the Preface, also, and the Acknowledgement?

I've been doing mostly just one pass of noise reduction, and a setting of 9-6-6 has been working fairly well for me... helpful to also hear what others are doing. Also I recently bought a pair of headphones that actually WORK... on BOTH SIDES!! That makes a surprising difference to what I can hear... So I expect to be chopping a lot more mouth clicks...

Great, Holly!
Actually we do do introductory material a little differently, and here we have an introduction and a preface, so here is how I would do it.

“Introduction and Preface of In the Oregon Country. This a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit LibriVox DOT org.
Recording by …….
In the Oregon Country by George Palmer Putnam, Introduction

(text of Introduction)

At the end of the introduction, I would just pause and say, “Preface."

For the closing, just say "End of Preface."

Save the file as number 00

If this makes sense to you, let me know and I'll assign it to you.

Thanks, Larry… Yes, that makes perfect sense. So I guess I start reading the introductory material right below where it says “introduction“.… And then continue. And I end right at the end of the preface (and say, “end of preface“). And I just stop there, skipping the “acknowledgement “ part... yes?

Oh, right. I forget to say to skip the acknowledgement. It doesn't really add anything of value, so can be omitted.
I'll get you set up in the MW.

Thanks!

Well, well, what fine, expressive reading. You really made this come alive!
And, quite flawless

I have only one request.
We are going by Chapters in this book, not sections, so the intros and outros need to be "Chapter 11, Part One" and "Chapter 11 Part Two"
Sorry - my fault for not making this clear!
