This project is now complete! All files can be found at https://librivox.org/lives-of-the-most-eminent-painters-sculptors-and-architects-vol-7-by-giorgio-vasari/

Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects Vol 7 by Giorgio Vasari (1511 - 1574). Translated by Gaston du C. de Vere (? - 1955)

Volunteers outside the USA: Gaston du C. de Vere died in 1955. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies.
The Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, from Cimabue to Our Times (in the original Italian, Le Vite de' più eccellenti pittori, scultori, e architettori da Cimabue insino a' tempi nostri) is a collection of biographies of Italian artists written by the 16th-century Italian painter and architect Giorgio Vasari. The Vite or "Lives" is a valuable witness of the thought about art at the times now known as Renaissance by one of its actors: Vasari is mostly known for being the mind behind the revitalization of the Uffizi, in Florence. The Lives are a fundamental work for art historians. (Summary by Leni)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/31845
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

A note on abbreviations. The abbreviation "S." should be read in the following ways:
Saint if name is English. (example: Saint John)
Santa if name is Italian and feminine. (ex: Santa Margherita)
Sant if name is Italian and begins with a vowel (masc or fem). (ex: Sant'Ilario)
Santo if name is Italian, masculine, and starts with ST. (ex: Santo Stefano) (There are other cases where this should be used--Z or S+any consonant--but they are rare)
San for any other Italian masculine name (ex: San Francesco)
If you're not sure, feel free to ask. :)

Hi Rita,
Section 1 sounds beautiful except for an issue with the intro disclaimer. Please use the expanded LibriVox disclaimer ("This is a LibriVox recording" etc. as noted in the first post) for the first section of the book, even though the project is now a solo. If you wish, you may use the shortened LibriVox disclaimer ("This LibriVox recording is in the public domain") for the second and subsequent sections. Thanks!

Thanks! It still doesn't sound quite right... The intro should be:
"Section 1 of Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects Vol 7. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects Vol 7, by Giorgio Vasari. Translated by Gaston du C. de Vere. Section [number]"
It's probably okay that you said the intro in a slightly different order, but there are some words missing, such as "for more information." Could you please revisit once more?

OK, I've (I hope) made it better and it's ready for spot PL.

As to section 2, I know I used the abbreviated intro and hopefully it's ok.
