The Greater Life and Work of Christ by Alexander Patterson ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-greater-life-and-work-of-christ-by-alexander-patterson/
It will be seen at a glance that this is not a life of Christ in the usual sense. It is not a review of the events of the earthly existence of our Lord. There is a greater life and a larger work of Christ of which his life on earth is but a single chapter. While no apology is needed for any publication of the great theme of the gospel, it may be stated that there is a special reason for such a book as this. The author has examined many works on Christ and lists of hundreds more, and has conferred with competent literary authorities, and has learned of few works, if any, covering this greater life and work of Christ. Such a study of Christ should be available. The author presents this, hoping it may in some measure supply the need, and lead to further presentation of this great theme by more competent students. (From the preface)
Chapter 1: Christ in the Eternal Past
Chapter 2: The Word Christ in Creation
Chapter 3: Jehovah Christ in the Old Testament Age
Chapter 4: Jesus Christ in His Earthly Life
Chapter 5: Jesus Christ Christ in His Present State and Work
Chapter 6: The King of Kings and Lord of Lords Christ in the Day of the Lord
Chapter 7: Christ in the Eternal Future
Ignore footnotes for this work, unless you come across one that is more than just a reference or bibliographic information, and that you think contributes meaning to the text. If you're unsure, you can always ask.
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/008414502
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

I'll DPL this project. But I do plan to read the introduction, so a volunteer to PL that section would be appreciated.

Well, I've recorded the preface. Now I'll just wait around and hope someone is interested in this topic besides myself.

Happy to read chapter 2 (2 sections).

Do you have any advice on treatment of footnotes. There are a lot of biblical cross references, and also quotes from other works the reference as a footnotes.

Thanks,
Adrian

Thank you both! I think we can safely ignore footnotes for this work. If either of you comes across one that is more than just a reference and seems to add to the text, then feel free to include it. Otherwise, I think they'll just bog us down.

EDIT: I've added a note to this effect in the first post. Thanks for asking!

Well done, Kevin. I'm going to enjoy this book. :)

I heard a few minor slips. Should be a quick fix.

6:48 Text reads "Ye were redeemed..." I hear "We were redeemed..." (OPTIONAL: I'd also add a bit of a pause here between one scripture passage and the next, to show that we're switching gears, but that's just a stylistic preference on my part.)
9:22 Text reads "It is to this Paul refers in the passage..." I hear "It is to this Paul renders in the passage..."
14:45 Text reads "...revealed himself until his incarnation." I hear "revealed himself until his carnation." (This one I'll call OPTIONAL, as it's pretty clear what is meant.)

I'm sorry to say that I couldn't find any information on him. I'm afraid this book will have to stand or fall on its own merits.

Minutes from the Presbyterian Church of America place Patterson as an evangelical located in the Chicago area in 1884. He is later recognized as the pastor of a small church in Morgan Park in 1904.
