Can I claim section 14 please? I'm very new to recording (this would be my first one)
Thank you!
Hi gslee10007 and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test How to Upload your 1 minute test

(You may post the link to your test in this forum and I will see it much more quickly)

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums

We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in Listeners WAnted forum. And how would you like to be credited in our catalog? What name? most of us use our real name but it is up to you.

You catalog name is set now. Your test shows that your voice is fine, but you need to fix two things and make a new test:

1) bit rate is 82.4 variable and we need it set at 128 kbs constant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54FyB3wLpA

2) your volume is low at 82.4 decibles. We aim at 89 decibles. Turn up the input gain, move closer to the microphone or whatever it takes to move that volume up about 6 decibles.

Once you have done this, make a test, called test 2 or somehthing, upload and paste the link here and I'll get right to it. :D

Hi again,

I've uploaded my one minute test and here is the link to it:

https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_ameliakatherinebrennan.mp3

I would like to be credited in the catalog as Amelia Brennan if that's okay.

Thank you! :D

Thanks for the test Amelia. Your voice is delightful but there are some things that you need to adjust in your recording software, then make another test:

1) Your test is in stereo (two tracks) we need it to be mono
2) Your bit rate is 126 variable and we need it to be 128 kbs constant
3) Your volume is too low. We need it to be louder. Increase the gain going into your recording set up, move closer to the microphone, speak louder, all these thing will help get that volume up there. Your volume is 80 decibels and we aim at 89 decibels. If this means nothing to you, just do the above things to get it louder.

What software are you using? Most of us use Audacity since it is free and has lots of support. Here are some videos if you are using Audacity:
stereo to mono - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lmx0q7IfLiw&feature=youtu.be
bit rate - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54FyB3wLpA
volume - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o just a way to use your eyes to judge volume.

So please make those adjustments, make another test, call it test 2, and put the link here. Ask if you need any helpa t all!!!!

Hello,

I have now changed the bit rate and changed the settings to mono. Unfortunately I am having issues with the volume but I hope my new test is loud enough. Here it is:

Thanks again.

Wow you are fast. Everything is fine now, but your volume is too loud now, at almost 95 dB. So back off on the gain or something and try again, call it test 3. You are almost there and with your obvious skill you will be recording in no time. We have a program called the Checker that can give volume if you want to try it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkhk0megqHE&feature=youtu.be :D

Alternately, if you are using Audacity, just reduce the volume of the track by about -6 dB.
