Women of America by John Ruse Larus (1858 - 1920).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

https://librivox.org/women-of-america-by-john-ruse-larus/

The present volume completes the story of woman as told in the series of which it forms part. The history of nations is, in its ultimate analysis, largely that of woman. Therefore this series in its wide inclusiveness forms a more than ordinarily interesting history. The present study of the women of America is innocent of theorizing or philosophy and from the nature of the subject the narrative takes the reader into paths generally unfamiliar in historic studies. - From the Introduction by John A. Burgan.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/32892
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

True, but the title page of this book spells it Rouse. I can change the entry to Ruse and put Rouse in as a pseudonym so either on would come up in a catalog search. Meanwhile I think I found a date of death of 1920.

Thanks Jo. That was fast. Where did you find the death date?

Tricia, I saw the Ruse/Rouse thing and thought the title page would be the one to choose, so I went with it.

Hi Reyeball,
The first section is up for you to listen to. The url and length of the file are in the magic window (mw). Some of the language is quite old fashioned - a bit tricky to put all in one sentence.

Hi Reyeball,
There are 3 more files for you to listen to. I needed to split several of the chapters into 2, one of them may need 3 sections, but I'm editing the mw as I go. I've put the page numbers up to give you an idea of where we are if you are following along with the text.

Hi everyone,
I am very sorry to say this but I will no longer be able to be the proof listener on this project. I am going back to work now and I don't foresee that I will have enough time to commit to listening to this project.
So sorry and thank you for the opportunity,
Reyball
