Hi all,
Great work you are all doing whether reading, proofing or other!
I have been the recipient of a Jeeves and Wooster recording in the past which alerted me to your existence!
So wish to join the merry band in spreading some sweetness and light !
My main goal is to read Pg Wodehouse.
Can anyone tell me if there is a current call to read one or which book will be next to record?
Many thanks
Toodle pip

Welcome to LibriVox Peter! As much as I love Wodehouse, he is one that i cannot do any justice to and so reluctantly pass by. But you will be perfect of course! You will enjoy being creative here as well as having fun. I've made a little video to welcome people; It has some basic info about us that I thought might be helpful to know right at the start. In any case ask lots of questions, we are a helpful bunch here and you will fit right in. https://youtu.be/mwtn_2d3_qs
Oh, and Isabella, the happy Librivox penguin (who is currently working from her home of course) welcomes you too with her happy dance
We read what takes our fancy so if there is no Wodehouse project currently active, you may start one.

Hi Phil,
How do I find out what if any Wodehouse projects are running?
Also as a newbie I am reluctant at this early stage to take on a new project/book.
However, I am interested in participating in " Sam the sudden " book which came out in 1925 and so should be ok to do?
How do I find out what books of Wodehouse could be done?
Thanks
Peter

We first check gutenbert site http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page . after that we post for help in our help Wanted forum, and someone will gladly check out any PD text that might be availble.
Of course you need to do your 1 minute test to check your technical specs. After that a short poem or something easy to get used to editing, then by that time you are ready to see what attracts y our interest. Most people do some contributions to group projects before attempting a solo. Lots of info in our wiki and here is another video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK9HAdLF-2k&t=30s

Since you're from the UK, I'm afraide Wodehouse is not PD for you. He died in 1975 - and copyright in the UK is "year of death + 70 years". So, you cannot read this for us, legally, I mean.
I hope you'll find some other author that interests you...

Hi Ava,
That is so disappointing
I am devastated as I was looking forward to reading a Wodehouse.
Kind regards
Peter

Hi Ava,
So I can legally download Wodehouse books as long as they have not used a UK reader! I assume you haven't so far used a single UK reader for any of Wodehouse books?
Crazy, so technically the books should only be available in the USA!
Is this right?

If you go to any of our completed projects, it states at the top left:
For various reasons, we do (can) not restrict access to (individual items in) our catalog. We simply assume that people do the right thing. Same for recording.LibriVox recordings are Public Domain in the USA. If you are not in the USA, please verify the copyright status of these works in your own country before downloading, otherwise you may be violating copyright laws.
Cheers, Ava.

Hi Availle,
Having got over the shock of different PD's, surely this is to do with downloading in various countries.
I fail to see why you cannot use non USA voices for issue to USA.
Are you saying you only use USA voices for those books not in the pd of Europe?
It is certainly legal for me to read these books surely?
Confused
Kind regards
Peter

I'm based in the UK too. It's a constant annoyance that I can't record some projects that my transatlantic brethren can.
The point is that by recording it in the UK, you are creating a copy (albeit on a different medium). If you use that recording
for your own purpose, nobody is going to care. If you make that recording available to others, it is a breach of copyright if
you do it within 70 years of the author's death. This law is to preserve the value of the estate of that author.
If you record it on your laptop on holiday in the USA, then USA laws apply.
Best Regards from Cambridge,
Adrian

Thanks Adrian for the illumination.
I am not sure it gets us UK willing volunteers any further but I understand it.
The European version of this will still be 70 years after death!
It certainly restrains us from reading alot of books!
Which ones are you volunteering for?
Take care
Peter

Hello Peter,
I've been at this for almost a year. It is a stimulating hobby.
There is an automated process to summarize your current state: https://librivox.org/sections/readers/13577
My "day job", such as it is (and at the present is mostly isn't), is technical, so to do something a bit artistic/cultural is a nice change.
Best Regards,
Adrian
