I'm always pleased to hear another VO's work. You and I are both aficionados of past wars. In junior high, I learned a little bit about the Civil War, but we never got to WWI in high school or college.

Book summary updated on Project Screen. Growing up where the American Revolution was fought, I'm not sure we even made it to the Civil War.

I got my fascination with the American Civil War from my father (I can still remember his reading McKinlay Kantor's novel Andersonville - I was 11 and much impressed by this big book!) My interest in the world-shattering WWi and WWII came along later as I began as an adult to realize what devastation they both caused. And then my "own" war was Vietnam, which is still too painful for me to pay much attention to. Someday...

Are you old enough to remember the "Civil War" cards that were basically baseball cards but with brutal, bloody paintings of soldiers impaled on sharpened stakes, or grapeshot from a cannon blowing the heads off the enemy?

No, I think I'm glad I missed them. Not really into mayhem anymore. Enough to remember that General Leonidas Polk was cut in two by a cannonball outside of Atlanta. Yuck, what a way to go. Not that any of them died any better, really.

Edit: It occurs to me to say that before the war he was the Episcopal bishop of your part of the country, Louisiana. Should have stayed there/that. He wasn't a very good general.

I was born in L.A., but have lived in LA since 1974. Born in L.A. County Hospital. Grew up in San Diego mostly.
