I have a question. For the next multilingual collection, I would like to chant a hymn: both text and music are in the public domain (and have been for about 800 years

). Also I might have to record more… ehm, let's call them "voices" (actually sounds, possibly unpleasant

).

Is this allowed?

Also, Latin and French stanzas alternate. My French pronunciation is poor: maybe someone may wish to record the French stanzas? (Perhaps someone with enough… sense of humour?

)

if you can find a source for the musical score and a reliable note that it's that old, then it should be ok. We are rarely singing because of the PD problems.

this sounds intriguing...what did you have in mind ? The thing is, apart from the drama plays, we are usually only reading the text as written. You can be expressive of course, but not really insert anything that isn't in the original source.

It is a hymn for… the Feast of the Ass: "Orientis Partibus".

Although it may seem very funny, it is actually quite a serious little thing. Yep, in the Middle Ages Christians accepted the notion that god is carried by… donkeys (the priests, bishops, cardinals, up up to the pope). It was a "mystery" deeply felt like the notion that the church was a "casta meretrix", they could say it and literally mean it

, and defend the notion with lengthy theological discussions

. Of course the feast, in just a few centuries, was eventually banned.
