The People Who Wanted To Live in Caves. This little book takes us back to the time when our ancestors lived, or wanted to live in caves. Unfortunately the caves off that time were mostly used by large animals like the Sabre Toothed Tiger and bears who could easily kill and eat our ancestors. Thus the subtitle of this book is The Age of Combat. This book, aimed at children, tries to show how certain things things could have taken place to enable our species to eek out a living alongside the much stronger beasts such as why we wanted to live in caves, the hazards and rewareds of living in caves; the taming of fire, and how early tools were invented. This book follows on The Tree Dwellers and is itself followed by The Later Cave-Men. . ( Phil Chenevert)
How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

END of recording
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Section number ] Note that this is the section number, not chapter numbers"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of The Early Cave-Men , by Katharine Elizabeth Dopp. "
There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

AFTER recording Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide. Save files as
128 kbps MP3
earlycavemen_##_dopp_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. earlycavemen_01_dopp_128kb.mp3)
Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

Thanks! The only question I have is for the intro to each section you have "Chapter [number] of The Early Cave-Men" - should it be "Section [number]..." since we go on to explain the chapter numbers after the librivox disclaimer?

No, you say the section number at the end, but not the begenning. The actual wording is in the first post. Say, " The Early Cave-Men, by Katharine Elizabeth Dopp. [Chapter number then title] for example the first chapter would be [Chapter 1 Why People Wanted to Live in Caves]" At the end of the chapter read "Thnigs To Do" followed by Chapter 2, Things to Think about then the chapter title How the Fire Clan Got a Cave. and like this for Chapter 3.". I know it's kinda confusing but hopefully it will work.

Cadastra, what you said just above is what I was getting at earlier as well. I just recorded section 1, so I can redo the first sentence and add in the Ch 1 Part later, but saying chapter 1 initially is misleading where section may make more sense. Just my opinion. Let me know!

Yes, the section numbre should be said at the beginning and at the end. I probably am responsible for the confusion there. What you suggest is exactly what should be done.
