I would like to record chapter 1 and 2 from this book.
Hi, and welcome to Librivox! Thank you for your interest in this project.andreeacarmen221b wrote: ↑June 12th, 2020, 2:47 am I would like to record chapter 1 and 2 from this book.
I am actually working on this book as a solo project, but there are lots of places to find available parts and chapters.
The first step is to record a one-minute test to make sure you are set up to record. Instructions for this can be found here:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test
After your test recording is approved, you can find projects to join here:
Short works (poetry & prose)
viewforum.php?f=19
Books (parts are assigned one chapter at a time)
viewforum.php?f=2
Dramatic works (parts are assigned one character at a time)
viewforum.php?f=27
There is also a help forum if you have any questions while you are getting started.
Great to have you on board as part of the Librivox community!

Only the dark, dark night shows to my eyes the stars;
After the clangor of organ majestic, or chorus, or perfect band,
Silent, athwart my soul, moves the symphony true."

Just what Matt says. The "Readers Wanted: Books" section is a great place to look when you want to record your first couple chapters. There's a huge range of projects going on at any given time - you're sure to find something of interest. And if you have any questions feel free to ask. We don't bite!
Matt - I'll be PLing your two latest chapters sometime today.

Chapter 13:
At 3:39 you say "512 thousand, 21" but the text reads "512 million, 21" - since Burroughs immediately goes on to explain the number in math-speak I'm worried some listeners will catch the difference here. Could you fix that number please?
Also, I'm longing for some way to express the hieroglyphs in spoken word, but... (sigh) I don't see a good way. Oh well.
(Burroughs loves to put very specific numbers about the sizes of things and the number of warriors in an army, doesn't he?)

Ah yes - I will redo that part and get it resubmitted.loon wrote: ↑June 12th, 2020, 1:15 pm Chapter 13:

I thought about just saying "image," but that doesn't feel right... and a description would be cumbersome.
Between numbers and names, I felt like I was going in circles. Especially since now we have characters with a name, a title that is sometimes used as a name, and a slave name that represents a number... oh, and all of the slave number-names are almost identical. Zoinks.

On a hunch I went to the text-only version at Gutenberg - I found that that version says [Illustration: glyph]. - which is at least as cumbersome, maybe more so.
Zoinks indeed! That's Burroughs for you: out to confound the reader.reecedawg wrote: ↑June 12th, 2020, 5:33 pm Between numbers and names, I felt like I was going in circles. Chapter 14 is PL OK.
(part 1 of chapter 14)
I think I'll skip using this chapter as a template for male-female relationships.
(part 2 of chapter 14)
What happens if Tarzan increases in size "in a hundred heartbeats" while he is enslaved in the mines?

Chapter 15:
At 15:07 I hear "if the frail support slipped from the window hole" - the text reads "if the frail support slipped from the fragile hole" - I say let it be, it describes the situation just fine, so I'm calling the chapter PL OK.
Tarzan has stumbled upon some massacre. That's lucky for Tarzan and Komodoflorensal (unless the killers are hanging around to do them in as well). I'm glad I haven't read ahead in the story, the suspense is building nicely.
