This is my first recording for Librivox! My name is Clark Pigeau and I hope that this story is suitable for your project. I would love some feedback if you have the time
I was also wondering if one would be allowed to submit multiple stories to the same collection? I was considering reading another as I greatly enjoy sinister stories.

Thank you, Clark! Welcome to Librivox and the Ghost and Horror Collection! Lovecraft is an excellent choice for your first recording and you did an exceptional job of it! My only comment is about the volume which is lower than desired. I checked your previous posts and I saw you got some advice on the volume, but let me know if you need more help. This recording would need to be amplified by about 12dB. When you're ready, you can upload your file with the same name (no problem as the old file gets automatically renamed so there's no overwriting)Clarkpvoice wrote: ↑June 8th, 2020, 11:18 am Recording: The Cats of Ulthar by HP. And in this collection there is no limit, you can record and submit to your heart's desire! If in the meantime the collection becomes full, any extra recordings are forwarded to the next collection

Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad, as I do enjoy a good spooky story. Here is the boosted volume version. It is only up about 8db because at around 12 it was peaking consistently(I can alter again if it is simply my set up that is having issues). I also wanted to ask, what is considered a short story? Would an hour recording be too long for this type of collection?

For longer recordings, the general practice is to fit in an audio CD. Most CDs do 74 minutes, some do 80 minutes. So an hour recording is definitely fine.
We can also accept a two-, three-, four-, n-part story here if you need to divide a story
I am a bit confused about the volume, because I got the first upload at about 77db, so I suggested 12db amplification, but this one I got at 96db.
Did you perhaps upload the first time a file, which you amplified later to around the desired 89, which you then amplified again as per my suggestion and it got to 96? Or maybe uploaded the wrong file the first time?
Or what steps of amplification did you follow in Audacity?

in terms of amplification, I used the amplify effect bar at the top of the program, I then increased it by what I thought was 8 but was actually about 20. I mistook audacity's recommendation for amplification(of 11dB) as the baseline for my recording. In hindsight, this was a rather silly mistake. I have since resolved it. Here is the (hopefully) correct volume version.Rapunzelina wrote: ↑June 8th, 2020, 2:49 pm For longer recordings, the general practice is to fit in an audio CD. It sounds perfect now!
Well, it is a learning curve, and you're doing great! I enjoyed learning to use Audacity, and I've used it for things outside Librivox too! I think it can be a useful skill to have!

Rapunzelina -
I just uploaded a revised version of "From the Loom of the Dead", which corrects the author's name in the intro/outro, and that's the only change made. I had originally pronounced her name as "Elle", but it's "Elia Wilkinson Peattie". That should be corrected with this link: https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/ghohor039_loomofdead_peattie_dwd_128kb.mp3
and the duration is the same.

Thanks, Daniel! I hadn't even noticed. With names, there are all sorts of different pronunciations!
Spot checked the new upload to make sure the upload came through with no problems All good!

I recorded "The Masque of the Red Death" by Poe for the collection. The recording is 16 min and 34 sec.

Thank you, Spen!
Very nicely read! Just one PL Note when you got the time:
a short repeat around 1:24 "the creation of the prince-- prince's own eccentric [...]"
