Hi Linny,
I may need help with the corrections, particularly the amplify part. I’m using Audacity. Thanks for your help.

linny wrote: June 4th, 2020, 8:13 am Hello Rachel,
You did a wonderful job! :9:

There are a couple of things which need to be fixed.
19:15 - There is a longer than normal pause mid sentence is it…when mother

The volume is very low at 77.2dB. Please amplify. We aim for 89dB with an allowable range of 86-92dB.
Please noise clean (after you amplify).

If you need any help with the corrections please let me know what software you are using.
We need to get you a little louder. For future recording you can try adjusting your mic positioning or the input level but for this one let’s just amplify. Your recording is at 77.2dB. We aim for 89dB with an allowance of 86-92dB. Highlight your audio. Go to Effect>Amplify>10.438 ok. Now see how the majority of your waves are about the height of 0.5 to -0.5 (look to the left of the wave on the Audacity program you should see numbers ranging from 1.0 to -1.0) This is the height you are aiming for.

Now let’s do a little bit of noise cleaning. Do you see how your line during the "silent" areas is "fuzzy"? This is a visual indicator there is too much background noise. In the future be sure that you turn off everything you can hear before you start recording. Sit quietly in your recording area and just listen. If you can hear it, so can the microphone.
For this recording try some noise cleaning. Noise cleaning and amplifying are the two most common edits we do.
First highlight some of your "silence", say 21:26-21:30.
Effect>Noise Reduction>Get Noise Profile
Select your entire recording
Effect>Noise Reduction>Play around with the noise settings (using the "preview" button until you are satisfied). I used 20, 6.00, 6. Toggle to reduce noise>OK.
See how the line in your silence areas became a very fine line? That's what you are looking for.

Let me know if you need additional assistance.

Linny,

Here are the corrected files:

https://librivox.org/uploads/linny/cm3_16_mason_128kb.mp3

Time now 16:37

On this one it really wasn't a 'stumble' it was just a mispronunciation of a word with which I wasn't familiar.
Some how I missed the noise on both of these, sorry. :(

https://librivox.org/uploads/linny/cm3_29__mason_128kb.mp3

Time still 5:59

On 29, noise cleared up, but i don't see an error in the file name. :?:

I hope they are alright now.

Hello Wayne,
Doesn't 'stumble' sound so much kinder though?

29 had an extra underscore 29__mason. Don't worry about it. I changed it.

Both 16 and 29 are both spot check PL OK.

Now I see it. I was looking for errors in letters, or numbers or sequence. Thanks for your patience and work. :9:

Hi there,

Here is Chapter 21

https://librivox.org/uploads/linny/cm3_21_mason_128kb.mp3

Time: 23:05

Again, very interesting. Having been trained as a teacher, and having our daughter home school her 13 (not a typo) kids, I found this very interesting (also having lived in England for a couple of years). She kind of 'non-schools', but it works as her oldest (19) got an A.S. at 18, her second (18) got a A.A. at 17 and is working on her BA in Early Childhood Development with an emphasis in Special Needs, number three (17) is in his second year of college (taking Calc 3 now) pulling a 4.0, and the fourth (who started college at 14 and is now 15) is pulling a 3.8 trying to figure out what she wants to do. And the rest are just as advanced. Grandpa will now get off of his bragging soapbox.

I write out the intro for each reading then just change the chapter number. Guess what. I forgot and just read it without changing it!!!! I even missed it when I did my PL.

I am now away from my computer so it will be Tuesday before I can get to it. Sorry.
