The dogaressas of Venice : The wives of the doges by Edgcumb Staley (1845 - 1903).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/dogaressas-of-venice-by-edgcumbe-staley/
A series of biographies of the wives of the doges (leaders) of the Venetian Republic. ( Timothy)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/dogaressasofveni01stal/page/n19/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi,

When I look myself up, this project doesn't appear. Just wanted to check that's all cool?

(I mean here: the other project I started at the same time is there, but not this one?)

For the project to show up in the search, you have to fill in the MW and assign all the sections to yourself. Then the system recognizes that you'll be reading in this project.
I have now done the assigning for you, so the project should show up in the search. :)

Monthly checkin.

I still want to do this - real life has just distracted me a bit.

Hey - quick note. I noticed the title of this and couldn't believe they'd do "wifes". Turns out, the title on Archive has "wifes" but the printed title in the book scan has "wives."

I'm posting this in case you're purposely saying it in the intro as "wifes", which would be incorrect. :)

Hi,

I've been saying "wives", and I tried to change it over, but it just reposted the whole template. Any idea on how to fix it?

I changed it in the database, so the catalog page will be correct. Otherwise, you can go to the top post, hit the pencil icon, and edit the first post. Or you can leave it as is. ;)

Hi, question for the MC?

Has there been a policy change on length? My recording of chapter one is just over 64 minutes, and the Checker is saying that sections should be 10 -40 minutes. I thought the upper edge was 72 minutes because that was a disc in the old cda format?

So, do I need to split it into two sections?

Thanks!

Hi!
Yes, that is still the upper edge - a one-CD limit. I suppose the checker is giving the overall suggested length or something of the sort. So it is wholly up to you if you want to divide. There are both pros and cons. Some listeners might find two shorter files more manageable -- some might find the division distracting. :)
