What a beautiful reading, Aisling!

Everything is terrific, except that the decibels need to be brought up pretty significantly. LibriVox needs the volume to land between 86 and 92, and this is registering at 81.0.
And then it needs a little noise cleaning.

These are both easily managed in the recording software, so you definitely do not need to re-record your section.

Are you using Audacity? (this is what I am familiar with, and if you already know exactly what I'm going to explain below, I apologize for the unnecessary instructions)

If so, just open the file, click Control-A (to select the entire track), then in the drop-down menu for "Effects" open up "Amplify." Type 7 in that top box (ignore the bottom one), and hit Enter. It'll process for a few seconds, and then the whole track will be loud enough for our files.

Now, use your mouse to highlight a fair portion of the silent area, like the final 4 seconds of the file (don't catch your reading words in this sample portion). In the Effects drop-down menu, choose Noise Reduction, and click on "Get Noise Profile." The box will disappear. Now use Control-A to select the entire track again. Open Noise Reduction again, and type these numbers in the boxes: Noise Reduction 12, Sensitivity 6, Frequency smoothing 3. Click OK. It'll process for a few seconds, and you'll see the silent areas get smoother. And if you listen, a lot of the background noise is magically gone.

Noise Reduction is one of the best features of the software, but if you over-use it, it'll pull distortion into your recording that makes your voice all tinny, and even sounds like invading space monkeys that obscure the words. A 12 is a good solid adjustment that shouldn't make that happen. Sometimes I go a little higher on mine, usually I go a little lower. It all depends on what the recording is doing.

After doing those two processes, re-export the file to the mp3 again, and the re-upload this newer version and post here that it's ready to be checked.

The only edit you'll need to do is shorten that front silence so it falls between .5 and 1 second. Right now it's a little longer than 2.

Once that's clipped, re-export the mp3, and re-upload the file (then post here again with the new time duration)

I was thinking of reading this section (without the footnotes) from Stanley Lane-Poole's "Arabian Society in the Middle Ages", which is 4,860 words and deals with Arabian demons (Jinn and Ghouls, etc.). Here is the link: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/41110/41110-h/41110-h.htm#Page_25

I didn't know if it would be out of place here, since it's a survey of a subject matter. In other words, would this be more approporiate for the SNF collection?

It would be great to have you do a recording for one of the sections here. Before you do that, though, you should do the 1-Minute Test (which isn't really a test at all, just a process to make sure your system is set up properly before you go through all the work of doing a full section somewhere).

You would have received a welcome email, and that should have a link in it to get to the test instructions. If you can't find it, send me a message and I'll help get you there. I remember fumbling around quite a bit when I first started.

In the meantime, I'll reserve a section for you for a couple of weeks.

I will reserve a section for you. Before you record that, though, let's fine tune your set-up.

The test recordings are supposed to be posted on the Listeners & Editors Wanted board, but I did check out your test file.

The specs are set properly, but the volume is lower than LibriVox needs it to be. It comes in at only 82.2 decibels - it needs to be between 86 and 92.
Also, there are several plosives (places where consonants are popping).

These are easy fixes. Try the recording again, but slide the recording volume up a little bit speak a little bit further from the microphone. Let's see if that fixes both issues.

When you've done the sentence again with those changes, export it to mp3 again (maybe name it test2_vaishalisagar), upload it like you did your first recording, and post the new link in this thread: Listeners & Editors Wanted. I'll look for it there.
