The White Doe of Rylstone by William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850).

https://librivox.org/the-white-doe-of-rylstone-by-william-wordsworth/

A narrative poem in seven cantos, set during the Northern Rebellion of 1569. A group of Catholic nobleman from the North of England attempt to unseat Queen Elizabeth I and replace her with Mary, Queen of Scots. They are soon routed and Elizabeth's forces exact their revenge on the people of the Yorkshire Dales. Inspired by a visit to Bolton Abbey, Wordsworth's poem details the sad fate of one Catholic family whose patriarch decides to lend support to the rebellion. Although it is not among his most popular poems, Wordsworth himself considered The White Doe of Rylstone to be one of his finest. ( Phil Benson)

    IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
    Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ready for PL! The poem itself is quite short and I'll probably finish editing today. But, as usual take your time!

I'll have to decide on whether to read the notes or not. The longer one seems like it would be interesting as a background to the poem?

A great start! I'm doing poetry-level PLing for this, so if something seems too finicky let me know.

This will be an education for me, since I don't know this poem...

Canto 1

2.55-2.57, bottom third p 6
White [heard While] she is as lily of June,

4.49-4.54, top half p 9
But say, among these [heard those] holy places,

9.36-9.39, top third p 15
And superstitious [heard superstitions] fancies strong,

11.27-11.29, p 17 mid-page
Look down among [upon] them, if you dare;

Canto 2

9.30-9.32, top half p 36
…if I thus [heard thus I] may speak
To thee a woman…

12.26, antepenultimate line p 39, omission
[He] kissed the consecrated Maid;

Notes for Canto Third below. Over to Blast now!

8.15-8.18, second line p 53
He there stands [heard stands there] fixed, from hour to hour,

11.13-11.18, bottom half p 56, false start
Convoked to the Convoked the impious to chastise;

12.56-12.59, bottom third p 58
Sad [heard Said] words to that mute Animal,

13.28, p 59 mid-page, omission
[Far back – ] far back my mind must go

Canto Fifth is PL OK! Some very short notes for 4 and 6:

Canto Fourth:
4.58-5.02, top p 71, omission
‘Tis flown – [the Vision,] and the sense
Of that beguiling influence!

Canto Sixth
1.55-1.58, bottom half p 99
…a right
To excuse him in his [heard this] Country’s sight?

And the notes for Canto Seventh!

6.11-6.14, p 118 mid-page
…will not she [heard she not] believe
The promise in that speaking face,

11.12-11.17, top half p 124, omission
Behold the prophecy fulfilled,
[Fulfilled,] and she sustains her part!

Corrections to 1-4, 6-7 done and ready for spot PL. I can't seem to get the voices to match on this one, so I've used as little re-recording as possible. If any of them sound clunky, please let me know and I'll have another go.

Cantos 1-4, 6 and 7 are spot PL OK. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think you're probably better at patching in new material than I am, too!

Sections 00 and 08 are PL OK.

One note for 09, and it doesn't need rerecording:

16.49-16.53, p 154 first full note, stumble
…and a vault, where, according to tra- according to tradition…
