Greetings and salutations from cool, green Asheville, North Carolina.

I come in peace seeking knowledge and sage counsel. My mother suffers from severe macular degeneration. She's managed with some books on tape from the State Library but that's not really working (mechanically it's fine but the content leaves much to be desired; no disparagement to the Librarians, by the way. It's just a limited system).

She also has a Kindle Fire but that's not working either (I'm a more or less fully functional human and the damn thing frustrates me too).

So I'm looking for an easy to use (buttons rather than touchscreen?) MP3 player or other device to play audio books on. Or maybe a voice controlled situation.

Any thoughts are very much appreciated. I'm looking forward to learning more about this community and pitching in where I can.

Hi, Stephens.

I would recommend iPod shuffle if they haven't been discontinued. That's what I use when I want to navigate audiobooks without looking at a screen. There are some similar devices from other companies that turn up on Amazon when you search for "mp3 shuffle", but I don't have experience with any of them. You may get more responses if you post your question in the forum Need Help? Got Advice? with a descriptive subject heading.

The ipod shuffle has been discontinued - much to my sorrow and mine gave up so I was forced to buy the ipod still sold but if you could find a shuffle they are good and if you used our M4B books even better, it held a number of books and bookmarked them so you could listen to a number at the same time - perhaps I need to say you could switch to another book and back :D. And it was all button operated.
And it had a clip so you could weed the garden without it falling out of your pocket.

It's also possible to use Alexa I think ?
