Here's is my 1 minute test.

I also posted it on the other forum. I had originally posted it a couple of days ago but no one looked at it. I got impatient and submitted a poem for weekly poetry so I should be good but I keep getting asked about the test so I redid it.

It's OK. (I just posted in your test thread that it's OK, too.) Go ahead and start recording these sections!

I'll put you in for both the sections - you've got 2 months to complete them, so you should be OK.
How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a link to a personal web site or blog, if you have one. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, enemies, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)

I removed your email, so that spam bots don't get ahold of it.
When you get your website set up, you can ask any admin to add it to your catalog page.
Here's your reader/catalog page: https://librivox.org/reader/14348
You can get to it from any Magic Window in which your name is linked.
Click on Reader Section Details, and you'll see a list of the sections you've claimed and at what stage they're at.

Wow! What a moving story! If you can give me a few weeks to work on this, I'd love to do it. Section 1 would be a great challenge!

Sure - you've got 2 months from the date of claim. If that's not enough, check in and see if an extension will work.

Hi Tricia,rwraptor wrote: ↑May 17th, 2020, 3:47 pm Hi Tricia
Thanks for the very prompt and detailed feedback - I had trouble with the volume being too low so I tried to fix it using Amplify but it still didn’t meet the brief. In the end I used the Effect - Compressor clearly missing that I amplified my breath in the process.
I’ll take on your recommendations and review my Mic position and re record a small part to make sure it’s suitable before recording the whole Section. Thanks
This is only a test (first few pages) - to see if I've got at least the "pauses" and the "explosives" fixed.
I've used both Noise Reduction and Amplify in Audacity - then rechecked this file using Checker and found that despite my "Effects" - the volume is only 83.7dB.
I've just rechecked my Recording Volume in Audacity and see it is at 0.81 - so if everything else is okay in the test file I will get the whole section 4 4-6 recorded at a higher recording volume and hopefully it will be PL OK (fingers crossed).

If you could just listen to this and let me know that would be great.

I think it does sound better.
What you can do to get the volume up: once you've finished recording and editing, after that last amplify you did, then select the whole recording and go to Effect / Compressor. ]
Use these settings:
Threshold: -16 dB
Noise Floor: -35 dB (or whatever is the default)
Ratio: 3:1
Attack: 0.2
Decay: 1.0
NO checks in the check boxes
That will squish down your spikes so you can amplify by another 4.5 dB or so and get right around the correct volume range.
