Justice by John Galsworthy (1867 - 1933).

A cheque has been issued for nine pounds but someone has changed it to ninety in the hopes of claiming the money. But who is responsible. Will one mans confession bring us to the truth, or is he covering for someone else. (by Michele Eaton)
  • This project is complete. Audio files can be found on our catalog page at: https://librivox.org/justice-by-john-galsworthy/

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2911
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ah, I saw this was on the stocks and was waiting for it to go live so that I could volunteer to narrate. Never mind, another time perhaps. :D

Hi Michele
Pre-claiming again, can I read Justice Floyd (the Judge)? As he only seems to be in act 2 would it be ok for me to also take a small role in the later acts? If so I could do the Chaplain in act 3 or the detective Wister in act 4 (I can do different voices). There are a lot of roles to fill here. I think Galsworthy should be safely PD for me 😸

Michele -

I hope I'm not being over eager, but may I have the role of advocate Cleaver?

Hi Michael I would be more than happy for you to narrate. I only volunteered to do it myself because sometimes it is a hard role to fill. Let me know and I will sign you up when the MW is ready to go.

Thanks for claiming I don't see it should be a problem to do 2 roles and then if we don't fill all the spots for you to do a third is that ok.

Great, thanks. This one looks an interesting (if pretty long!) narration. I do like English legal stuff, so do go ahead and add me to the MW when available.

I don't know how much you will worry about consistency in the pronunciation of names, but I see that one of the characters is called Hector FROME. That's a fairly unusual British surname which is usually spelled FROOM or FROOME. It comes from the town of Frome in Somerset, near where I grew up, which is apparently one of the most frequently mispronounced names in the country (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-49813249).

I'd prefer to pronounce it correctly - FROOM - if that's OK. Up to you whether you ask the actors to do the same.

Not a problem at all glad you said that as I myself would have pronounced it incorrectly. THanks for taking this on

Thanks Michele. I that case I would like to read the Judge in act 2 and the detective Wister in act 4 (he also has 1 line in act 1). I can give the detective a different accent. Later I could pick up one of the small roles in act 3, Iike one of the convicts, if they are still open.
