Falkner by Mary Shelley (1797 - 1851).

This project is now complete. All files can be downloaded from the catalog page here: https://librivox.org/falkner-by-mary-wollstonecraft-shelley//[/color]
Falkner is the last novel by Mary Shelley, best known as the author of Frankenstein and The Last Man. It tells the impossible love story between Elizabeth Raby and Gerald Neville. She is an orphan, raised by a tyrannical father figure. The man who raised her drove Gerald Neville's mother to her death years before. Can these men reconcile for the woman both love and start anew? Or would Elizabeth have to give up her happiness? Mary Shelley considered this her best novel. You may read it and see what you think. ( Stav Nisser and Wikipedia.)

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/falknernovel1837shel/page/n4/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I added the chapter titles, not the wordcounts because the etext was accessible. We can try to manage without that. If not, I will ask someone else to do that.

I have finished chapter one. Weezer
Hi Weezer,
a really nice recording! It's amazing how you can change your voice when the girl is speaking – I really hear her! :D
However, there are a few things that need to be changed before it can be marked OK:
1. the filename should end with falkner_##_shelley_128kb, which is missing
2. the silence on the begining lasts a second and a half, while it should be no more than a second
3. at 5:08 there is slight repetition: "grave of a.. a lately lost child"

And there's one thing I'm not sure about – in the begining it should be said "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]", but I hear "Narration by ..."; and the same in the end, where I hear "narrated by" instead of "recording by". It actually doesn't change the meaning, however it's a part of the standardized disclaimer... I'm not sure about the necessity to change that – what do you think, Anne or Stav?

Thanks again for this recording, Weezer; looking forward for the other two :D

Thank you, I'll PL it later today :)
I forgot to mention one thing – could you also please post the duration with your recording? It saves time for the BC when updating the Magic Window.
Thanks! :D

Wow. Thank you both. This was so fast. Ezer, without the duration of your recordings, I cannot enter them to the magic window as complete. So please send them. In addition, I heard readers say "narrated" and not "recorded", I heard readers not saying naything at all, this is not compolsary. It is totally up to you and every choice is fine. Seeing that you complete your chapters so fast, would you like to continue with 4-6?

Nice recording again :) Only a few errors to fix:
  • same as with Chapter 1, there should be no more than a second of silence at the begining of the recording
  • 2:47 – the text says "raise the poor trembler" but I hear "raise the proper trembler"
  • 4:20 – the text says "the spirit that had caused" but I hear "hadn't". I'm not sure about this one though, it may be my mistake because I'm non-native speaker and I might just hear something that's not there. Please listen to it yourself and if it's "had", there's no need to correct it.
  • 6:48 – the text says "her life would at once" and the word "would" is missing
  • 13:33 – the text says "for her part" and the word "part" is missing
  • 18:52 – the text says "but she never took..", you jumped over one line in the text
  • at the end of the chapter, "end of Chapter Two" should be said
  • 9:40 – the text says "too good for this bad world" but I hear "this sad world". However, it's nothing serious and if you want to leave it as it is, it's ok :)
When you correct the mistakes, please include the new duration with the new link as well; it'll probably change with the corrections.
Thanks again! :)

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I would be more than happy to record chps. 4-6.
I will endeavor to make the corrections to chp. 2 and to more closely follow protocol.
I am still relatively new to this and still learning.
Thank you. Weezer
