I absolutely agree. You have a pleasant day. Here it is Mother's Day, so we are all involved in that, but not as much as usual because we are all having to stay in our respective homes. So we FaceTime and text and all that sort of thing. Jim

These were interesting but some racism made it less ideal to read (to be expected from the time it was written but still jarring -- the casual use of the term "half breed" in both pieces and the stereotyping of indigenous people/Native Americans (with a few dollops of sexism for good measure)) -- especially annoying when I would stumble over a phrase with a particularly ugly bit in it and have to read it 3-4 times to get it right.
Colleen, I'll be watching for volume 12!

Only found a small difference:
> at 0:41: 1595 – you say "1599", a bit later in the text you say it correctly
thanks
Sonia
yes I see it more as an interesting piece of historical writing, so yes, there will be racism/sexism which nowadays is not accepted anymore.ColleenMc wrote: ↑May 10th, 2020, 2:33 pm Section 39: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume11_039_tappan_128kb.mp3

And announcement, we're back to open claims, since I haven't heard back to my PM reminder from the new reader and no one-minute-test hasn't been posted yet, so I am reopening sections 30, 99, 101, 105, 106, 109 and 110 again for interested readers.

I will take 30 and 109 unless you want to keep the short ones for potential new readers. I quite enjoy the picture descriptions

I find the picture description often interesting in a quirky sort of way. The historical notes I find are too short to be of much interest and often have slightly odd ideas of history. At the start of the next volume she says "It is not known when people from civilised countries first went America". There is a Euro-centric view of the world for you. What will our American readers make of that
