The Broken Oar by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-broken-oar-by-henry-wadsworth-longfellow/
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet and educator whose works include "Paul Revere's Ride", The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. He was also the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy and was one of the Fireside Poets from New England. (Wikipedia )
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This Weekly Poem was suggested by SonOfTheExiles.
This week's poem can be found here.

Set your recording software to:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
The Broken Oar by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal URL.]
Then read the poem:
Once upon Iceland's solitary strand
A poet wandered with his book and pen,
Seeking some final word, some sweet Amen,
Wherewith to close the volume in his hand.

The billows rolled and plunged upon the sand,
The circling sea-gulls swept beyond his ken,
And from the parting cloud-rack now and then
Flashed the red sunset over sea and land.

Then by the billows at his feet was tossed
A broken oar; and carved thereon he read,
"Oft was I weary, when I toiled at thee";
And like a man, who findeth what was lost,

He wrote the words, then lifted up his head,
And flung his useless pen into the sea.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: brokenoar_longfellow_your initials in lowercase_128kb.mp3
(e.g. brokenoar_longfellow_klh_128kb.mp3 )

*Readers, please check back in a day or so for any feedback regarding your reading.

Sorry Chad, the sample rate is still 48000 Hz in that upload. If you are using Audacity this is changed in the bottom left corner - the Project Sample (Hz) pulldown box, we need a 44100 Hz sample rate.
