And here's section 2 for PL @ 43:05
https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/lifefossilhunter_02_sternberg_128kb.mp3

Ava - I agree with your comment on use of Quote/unquote. It's just that I'm stupider when I'm concentrating on the reading than in retrospect :0)
I read this before seeing your response to section 1. I think I used quote/endquote less for short bits - and there's also a fairly long quote of what
somebody else said distinguished only by a change of voice. Hopefully it will be clear that it's a quote.

No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning (GOOD)

Original Text: ''weaving willow twigs in..'' - 1:46 - Recording says: Trigs instead of twigs
Original Text: The boy climbed a shock of oats - Recording says ''shock of oaks'' - 05:06
Original Text: as my mother called me, following him, - Recording says ''followed him'' - 05:11
Original Text: rheumatism settled in the lame leg. - Recording says ''into the lame leg'' - 06:22
Original Text: slung-shot wound in my forehead. - Recording says ''wound on my forehead'' 19:25
Original Text: - A tiny tiny jump in volume - don't know, in my opinion just turning the part down a tiny bit would normalize it - 28:48
Original Text: the finest species contained - Recording says '' finest specimens'' 30:47
Original Text: I prize highly, have done more - Recording says ''having done more'' 35:47
Original Text: to the air, began to “weather.” - Recording does not say quote - unquote for the word weather 41:49 - but it has been said previously in the recording for other words.

Didn't hear any repetition or anything like that.
First time posting in LibriVox, sorry for any mistakes. Great recording though! I liked it a lot. :D :D
Hello Raviolli,

Thank you for your careful review of this recording. We need new blood, so it's great to see somebody pitching in and getting their acoustic sleeves rolled up. I'd also encourage you to record - it's great fun.

Anyhow, I have corrected these mistakes, except for quoting "weather".
The updated file is here, ready for spot PL:
https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/lifefossilhunter_01_sternberg_128kb.mp3

The next step in the process is spot PL. I hope Ava won't mind, but I nominate you to go and check that the changes have been
made correctly. You don't have to listen to the whole file again, as I only changed the bits you cited. You're looking to see whether
I made the corrections correctly and whether the edit is OK (i.e. not too obviously an edit that "jarrs" the listener).

Thanks again,

Adrian

Thanks for checking, Raviolli.

In future you need to use the right jargon - you say "Proof Listen OK". That's the official term that Ava will look for that says it's all done.

Availle wrote: May 4th, 2020, 12:13 am Hi there and welcome back! :D

It's been a while  so maybe it's best if you do a quick One-Minute Test before you begin recording again? Just post it over in "Listeners and Editors Wanted", wait for your [OK] and then you come back to me?

While you're waiting for that coveted [OK], you can think about a catalog name too (since I don't see any recordings of yours?) If you're planning on saying your name in the intro/outro of your recordings, this would be a good choice so that your fans can find you in the catalog.

Just let me know!
hi there, I linked to it on your other project as well, but here's my one-minute test!

I've finished recording Section 5 but some of the tracks have more treble than others. I tried applying the Graphic EQ "cut treble" effect on one of the tracks - and that helped, but it is still noticeably different. Is there some way to copy the way an adjacent track is formatted and apply the same format to another track to make it sound the same - kind of like the format painter in Microsoft Word?

This is my first attempt at recording for Librivox so am just getting acquainted with how to make adjustments with Audacity.

Thanks

Here is section 5: https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/lifefossilhunter_05_sternberg_128kb.mp3
32 min 22 sec.

I ran it through the "MP3Gain Pro 2019" program with the "Fix" option to even out differences in volume - although I noticed there is another program with a similar name which I could not get to install. Please let me know if I need to do anything differently.

Arggh - figured out why the sound is not consistent between tracks: Every time I unplugged the headset from my MacBook after recording, and then plugged it back in again to record some more later, the Mac did not recognize the headset and was instead recording using its built-in Mic.

Please let me know if the difference is not acceptable and I can re-record.

Audacity is a persnickety beast. You need to have microphone plugged in before you open Audacity: it will not recognize the microphone if you plug it in after you open Audacity.

Thanks, Todd
