The Georgics by Virgil (70 BCE - 19 BCE). Translated by Harriet Waters Preston (1836 - 1911)

Virgil's Georgics are the second of the three major poetic works ascribed to the poet. It was published probably around 29 BC and, as the name suggests, the subject of the poem is agriculture. Divided into four books, it is also the shortest of Virgil's main poetry, with only 2188 hexametric verses. The poem draws on a variety of prior sources and has influenced many later authors from antiquity to the present. (Summary by Leni)

Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

     Channels: 1 (Mono)
     Bit Rate: 128 kbps
     Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
     No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
     Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
     START of recording (Intro)

     • If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

  8. AFTER recording
     Need noise-cleaning?
     Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
     Save files as
     128 kbps MP3
     georgics_##_virgil_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. georgics_01_virgil_128kb.mp3)

So, I recently found out that LibriVox still doesn't have a recording of Virgil's Georgics in English, to my intense surprise. We have it in Latin though So here it is, so we can fill this hole in the catalog. Window will be filled soon, looking for a DPLer and readers.

I corrected one word in section 11. At 12:14 the word should be "sloe" which I initially misread as "aloe". I made that change and re-uploaded the file. No other changes and the time remains the same. Sorry for the error.
